Bio


Russian-born tenor Viktor Antipenko, praised for his effortless, expensive sound and excellent technique, continues to sing leading roles to great acclaim, and becoming a tenor to watch in the dramatic repertoire.

This season, Mr. Antipenko returned to Ópera de Oviedo singing the role of Andrey in Tchaikovsky's Mazeppa to great acclaim. At the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, he appeared as Vaudemont in Iolanta under the baton of Mikhail Pletnev. He recently debuted the role of Hermann in Tchaikovsky's Queen of Spades at Theater Chemnitz in Germany and earned rave reviews for his portrayal of this demanding role. This spring he returns to Chemnitz debuting the title role in Wagner's Parsifal. Future performances include Lensky in Eugene Onegin with the Hawaii Opera Theatre, Enzo in La Gioconda at Innsbruck Theater and returning to Theater Chemnitz as Hermann in Queen of Spades and Meistersinger.

Recent engagements have included the title role in Lohengrin at Theatro Municipal de São Paulo and Opéra de Rouen; his Bolshoi Theatre debut as Don José in Carmen, a role which he also performed with Opera Las Vegas, Opera Fairbanks, and in concert with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, and at a gala performance at the Winter International Arts Festival led by Maestro Yuri Bashmet in Sochi, Russia; Luigi in Il Tabarro with Vero Beach Opera; his debut in Spain as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with Ópera de Oviedo, a role which he also performed with Opera Las Vegas; Vaudemont in Iolanta with New Opera NYC in San Francisco; Grigori in a special gala performance of Boris Godunov at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe; Erik in Der fliegende Holländer at the Bolshoi Theatre.

On the concert stage, he has appeared as the tenor soloist in Rachmaninoff’s The Bells with The Philadelphia Orchestra led by Vladimir Jurowski; in Kodály’s Psalmus Hungaricus with the New York Metamorphoses Orchestra at the New York Society for Ethical Culture; in Stravinsky’s Les Noces at the Grand Philharmonie Hall in St. Petersburg; at the Heidelberg er Schlossfestspielen Music Festival in an “Hommage a Sevilla” gala performance; and as Radames in highlights from Aida in The Netherlands; in addition to soloist engagements with the Russian Chamber Arts Society in Washington, D.C., and Vero Beach Opera.

Antipenko recorded Prokofiev’s "On Guard for Peace" with Yuri Temirkanov and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and was the Eastern Region winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions in 2014, as well as was a previous first place winner of the Kosciuszko Foundation’s Sembrich vocal competition.

He previously performed as a choral and solo artist at the Mariinsky Opera House. Viktor studied at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) in Philadelphia, where he performed the roles of Luigi in Puccini’s Il Tabarro and Riccardo in Verdi’s Oberto in AVA concerts at the Kimmel Center. He studied voice and choral conducting at the Glinka Choral College in St. Petersburg, Russia, and is a graduate of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory.
