Victor Benedetti has become known as a performer who fuses his rich, warm baritone with his innate theatrical gifts to bring characters of all sorts to life on stages around the world. His most recent performances have included the title role in Wozzeck at the Astoria Music Festival, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor with the Gut Immling Opernfestival, Scarpia in Tosca with Indianapolis Opera, the title role in Der Kaiser von Atlantis with MOR/Seattle Symphony, and Viktor in the North American premiere of Anya 17 with San Francisco’s Opera Parallele.

He made his debut with New York City Opera in the title role of Don Giovanni, a performance that awarded him NYCO’s Debut Artist of the Year. His many appearances with City Opera have included the Count in Le Nozze di Figaro, Peter in Hansel und Gretel, Slim in Of Mice and Men, and Escamillo in Carmen – a role that has taken him to both the Singapore Lyric Opera and to his European debut with Oper der Stadt Bonn.

Benedetti began his career as a member of the prestigious opera studio at the Lyric Opera of Chicago where he performed many roles. After this time in Chicago he sang on many of the major American opera stages including Glimmerglass Opera, Florida Grand Opera, New York City Opera, and Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center. His many roles include Germont in La Traviata, Marcello in La Bohème, John Sorel in The Consul, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Alfonso in La Favorita, Zurga in the Pearl Fishers, the title role role in Dallapiccola’s Il Prigioniero, and the title role and Ford in Falstaff.

“Benedetti’s Ford was, simply put, great. His powerful, rich voice was combined with a perfect characterization of the scheming, jealous husband. A tour de force!” – Asbury Park Press [Ford in Falstaff]

“Benedetti who has a voice that stands out for its beauty turned in a particularly affecting performance.” – Washington Post [Slim in Of Mice & Men]

“Here is a baritone worthy of Mozart, Verdi, Wagner, and anyone else requiring a singer who can reach the farthest rows without making those up close suffer. His portrayal is on target and his musicianship flawless” – New York Times [Giovanni in Don Giovanni]
