Bio


Verena Stoiber was born
in Germany. She studied theater and media and German and English literature in
Erlangen as well as stage directing at the August Everding Bavarian Theatre
Academy in Munich. During her studies she worked at Staatsoper Nürnberg,
Bavarian State Opera Munich, Kammerspiele München and Landestheater
Niederbayern, where she made her directing debut in 2008 with Tchaikovsky’s
“Eugen Onegin”. After living in Rome, Barcelona and Buenos Aires for some years
she moved back to Germany and became an assistant director at Staatsoper Stuttgart.
In 2014 she won the 1
st
 Prize at the international competition for stage
directing and stage design “Ring Award” for her production of “Freischütz”.
Since then she is a freelance opera director. Her latest directorial works
include the world premiere of Boehmer’s “Sensor” (2016, Deutsche Oper Berlin),
Verdi’s “Rigoletto” (2016, Staatsoper Nürnberg), Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde”
(2016, Oper Graz), Händel’s “Israel in Egypt” (2016, Winteroper Potsdam),
Verdi’s “Traviata” (2016, Macedonian State Opera and Ballet) and Wagner’s
“Rheingold” (2018, Theater Chemnitz). Future productions will be “Der
Freischütz” (2018, Staatsoper Karlsruhe) and “Lucia di Lammermoor” (2019, Oper
Graz).
