Vanessa Lanch was born in Toronto, Canada and is of German heritage. She studied music and theatre at York University, where she received education in set and costume design and vocal training  with soprano Norma Burrowes and mezzo-soprano Catherine Robbin. Vanessa went on to complete a masters degree in voice at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England studying with Penelope Mackay, and then later  in the opera school at the Vienna Conservatory in Austria. Vanessa was also a member of the Flanders Opera Studio in Belgium and the Bayreuth Festival Chorus in Germany. Vanessa made her debut in the role of The Tart in the contemporary opera Desire Caught by the Tail (by Joseph Finlay) for the Arcola Theatre's Grimeborne Festival in London, England. At the Flanders Opera Studio, she sang Mélisande in the Constant / Debussy / Brook's version of Impressions de Pelléas and Drusilla in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea. Other operatic credits include Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Giulietta (I Capuletti e i Montecchi, Bellini), Governess (The Turn of the Screw, Britten), and Pamina (Die Zauberflöte). Vanessa is now beginning to expand into roles of the young dramatic soprano repertoire, and recently sang her Germany debut performance of Agathe (Der Freischütz, C. M. Weber) in November 2015. Vanessa has been recognized for her excellence in interpreting modern music. She was the third place winner of the prestigious Eckhardt-Gramatte Competition in Canada (2011) and the winner of the Tracey Chadwell Memorial Prize at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (2008). She has also received scholarships to the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme (Aldeburgh, England, sponsored by the Canadian Aldeburgh Foundation), and the Centre for Opera Studies in Sulmona Italy. Solo concert credits for Vanessa include performances with the Leipziger Barockorchester, Germany (Weihnachtsoratorium, Bach), Haydn Orchester Eisenstadt (Neujahrskonzert), Ensemble Neue Streicher Klosterneuburg (Alzheimer´s Stories by Robert S. Cohen), Collegium Instrumentale Brugense with conductor David Angus ("Battles of the Sexes", Mozart /Beethoven), York University Concert Choir (Ein Deutsches Requiem, Brahms), Stratford Symphony Orchestra (Messiah, Händel), the London Singers Canada (Lord Nelson Mass, Haydn) and the Pax Christie Chorale, Toronto, Canada (Te Deum, Andrew Ager ). Vanessa currently lives in Vienna, Austria.
