Valdís Gregory was born in Reykjavík, Iceland and began her musical education at an early age, studying both the violin and the cello. She has a Master's Degree in Voice Performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts where she studied with Allan Glassman. In the summer of 2015, Valdís was a Vocal Apprentica Artist at The Astoria Music Festival in Oregon where she sang the Queen of the Night/The Magic Flute to rave reviews. Rebecca Sedlak from Coast Weekend said “Valdís Gregory’s Queen of the Night aria Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen was on fire” and Holly Johnson at Oregon Music News called her a “bad-ass Queen of the Night in full-voiced splendor.” Her other operatic roles include Ottavia/L'incoronazione di Poppea with the Chicago College of Performing Arts, Echo/Ariadne auf Naxos with Land of Enchantment Opera, First Lady/The Magic Flute with the Manhattan Opera Studio, Donna Anna/Don Giovanni in Iceland and Mrs. Jenks/The Tender Land at The Hartt School of Music. In the summer of 2010, Valdís studied at The Bel Canto Institute in Florence, Italy where her teachers were Patricia Misslin and Maestro Steven Crawford. While there, she was awarded a Performance Award for technical proficiency, performance potential, musicianship, expressiveness in the use of the Italian language and ability to incorporate style and traditions of the Bel Canto style. Valdís has performed as a solo artist at numerous solo recitals in Iceland and has appeared as a soloist with Spectrum Vocal Group (Iceland) in John Rutter’s Requiem, Händel’s Messiah with Hartt Collegium Musicum, with the Philharmonia Chorus (Iceland) singing an all Gershwin program with a jazz band and at a family concert with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
