Danish tenor Valdemar Villadsen graduated from the soloist class at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen in 2012.  He has appeared in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Philharmonie Berlin, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Danish Opera, Wiesbaden State Opera, Kiel Opera House, Teatro Principal de Burgos, Rossini Festival, Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci, Copenhagen Opera Festival and Internationale Maifestspiele Wiesbaden. And he has performed acclaimed solo recitals in Paris, Rome, Basel and at the Bergen International Festival.

His opera roles include Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Almaviva in Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Arnold in Rossini's Guillaume Tell, the officer in Zimmermann's Die Soldaten, Adam in Hvidtfeldt Nielsen's Chains and high tenor (haute-contre) roles in baroque operas such as Castor in Rameau's Castor et Pollux, Pygmalion in Rameau's Pygmalion, Glaucus in Leclair's Scylla et Glaucus and Apollo in Cavalli's Gli amori d'Apollo e di Dafne.

Villadsen is a sought-after concert and oratorio singer, where he has particularly made a name for himself as a Bach Evangelist. He has appeared as the Evangelist in Bach's passions in Sweden, Denmark, United Kingdom, Iceland, Switzerland and Germany (including the Philharmonie Berlin). And he is also sought-after for the demanding part in Orff's Carmina Burana.

Villadsen has worked with conductors such as Alessandro Amoretti, Giancarlo Andretta, Benjamin Bayl, Zsolt Hamar, Paul Hillier, Javier Illan, Sirkka-Liisa Kaakinen-Pilch, Christian Kluxen, Andrew Lawrence-King, Fabio Luisi, Václav Luks, Carlos Mena, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Christina Pluhar, David Riddell, Julius Rudel, Peter Spissky, Mark Tatlow, Matthew Toogood and Christian Vasquez, and with opera directors such as Vasily Barkhatov, Lucinda Childs , Elisabeth Linton and Sir David McVicar.

Recent engagements include Glaucus in Leclair’s Scylla et Glaucus at the Kiel Opera House, Adam in the world premiere of Hvidtfeldt Nielsen’s Chains at Aarhus Summer Opera, Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Bergen Symphony Orchestra, Bach's Coffee Cantata with the Concerto Copenhagen, Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine at the Philharmonie Berlin and Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo in Potsdam and Ghent with L’Arpeggiata.
