One of the most versatile singers of his generation, Tuncay Kurtoglu is a laureate of many national and international competitions such as Leyla Gencer Singing Competition (Honorary Mention - Istanbul/1995) 11 th Boris Christoff Competition (Finalist – Sofia/1996), Belvedere Competition (Finalist – Belvedere/2002), Tchaikovsky Competition (Best Tchaikovsky Interpretation - Moscow/2002), Verviers Competition ( 2 nd Prize - Belgium/2003), 2 th.Valsesia Competition (2 nd Prize – Italy/2004), Vinas Competition (3 rd Prize - Barcelona/2004), Alcamo Contest (1st Prize - Italy/2007).
He has also been honored by many prestigious awards including "Artist of the Year Award" both in 2010 and 2011 in Turkey, "Mustafa Iktu Honorary Award" of Semiha Berksoy Foundation in 2013 and Best Male Opera Singer Award in 2016, Turkey.
Following his successful 1996 debut concert in Milan at G.Verdi Conservatory, he also appeared as Don Basilio in The Barber of Seville following his success at the 11th.Boris Christoffer Competition. Since then he has been equally at home with his vast repertory of past centuries as well as modern works performing on world stages with his memorable roles such as ''Timur” (Turandot), “Sparafucil” (Rigoletto), “Filip and Provincial Grand L'inquisitor” (Don Carlo), “Sarastro” (Die Zauberflöte), “Green 's” (Eugene Onegin), “Attila” (Attila), “Figaro and Dr.Bartolo” (Le Nozze di Figaro), “Commendatore” (Don Giovanni), “Zaccaria” (Nabucco). He has been acclaimed especially with his roles “Ramfis and The King” (Aida), “Sparafucil A” (Rigoletto), “Zaccaria” (Nabucco), “Osmin” (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), “Timur” (Turandot), “Attila”(Attila) and “Landgraf”(Tannhauser) at the International Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival, International Istanbul Opera Festival.
He has performed his famous role 'Osmin' (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) for 15 seasons not only in Turkey but also South Korea, China, Italy, Ekaterinburg and Estonia which also won recognition in the Taormina Festival in Italy in 2014.
His regular appereances in world festivals and stages includes 50th Dubrownik Festival (1999), State Opera Gala Concert in Zagreb (Croatia), 2000 in Arhus and Copenhagen (Denmark) “Ramfis and The King”(Aida), Sava Center Hall (Mozart Requiem – Coronation/Belgrade), 'Nurabad' (Les Pecheurs de Perle) at Basel Opera, 'Creon' (Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex) in Innsbruck, Valsesia (Italy), Sassari (Italy) Fernando operas (Il Trovatore), II. Consul and Federico Barbarosa as covering artist in Piacenza - Teatro Verdi Opera La Battaglia di Legnano; Barone (Il Viaggio a Reims) in Chieti Teatro Maruccino and "TheKing" (Aida) in Santiago – Teatro Municipale. In 2006 he was covering artist as ‘’Wurm’’ (Luisa Miller) in Teatro La Fenice.
His outstanding international concert appearances includes Kremlin Palace with Kremlin Chamber Orchestra in Moscow (2007), Alte Oper (Frankfurt) in 2008; Lincoln Center (New York) and Strathmoor Music Center (Washington); Beethoven's 9th Symphony at Royal Conservatory (Brussels) in 2012 and Mass in C in 2013 at Palace de Bozar (Brussels).
Throughout 2011 and 2015 seasons, he performed ''Le Grand L'Inquisitor “(Don Carlos)”, “Pistola” (Falstaff) and “Dr.Bartolo” (Le Nozze di Figaro) in Hamburg Staatsoper.
He was the first Turkish soloist to sing “Yunus Güner” in Ludger Vollmer’s “Gegen die Wand” at the Giessen State Theater which lasted many performances (Germany/2016) .
His recent role as Don Pizzaro in L.v. Beethoven's Fidelio with Expat Philharmonic Orchestra's concert tour in Germany conducted by J. Salemkour and Staatsoper Berlinchor brought him many critical acclaims along with his Rbb Rundfunkhalle, Stuttgart and Nuremberg concerts.
Since 2016 season he has been performing "Mephistofeles" in Gounod's Faust at the Istanbul State Opera and "Gremin" in Tchaikovsky's Yevgeni Onegin , "Banco" in Verdi's Machbeth at Mersin State Opera ,''King Rene'' in Tchaikovsky's Iolanta and ''Ramfis'' in Verdi's Aida at Antalya State Opera. (Turkey).
Besides his artistic career, Kurtoglu extensively lectures at Baskent University State Conservatory (Ankara) and Anadolu University State Conservatory (Eskisehir).
Following his graduation from Ankara Gazi University, Tuncay Kurtoglu joined Ankara State Opera in 1989 where he still works as soloist. He was born in 1970 in Ankara.
