Thomas Peter Koppel has been touring Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia for over two decades now - foremost in programmes consisting of opera and operetta and more recently of italian da camera songs in connection with his latest CD-releases, Piacer d´amor  and Passione (both Gateway Music). The 100th anniversary of his great grandfather in 2008 inspired Thomas to take up the output from this popular writer of art songs - and soon they were also in demand on the domestic concert platform. Thomas is born into the musical dynasty of the Koppel family - his mother being the famous dramatic soprano, Lone Koppel, his above-mentioned grandfather the internationally praised composer and pianist, Professor Herman D. Koppel. Already at the age of 8, Thomas stood on the stage contributing with his boy soprano as Gherardino to the production of Gianni Schicchi at The Sydney Opera House, where his parents were engaged. At The Royal Opera of his native Copenhagen, Thomas has since portraied over 40 roles in the lyric tenor Fach as well as in the Buffo orientated repertoire. The long list includes Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, André / Cochenille / Pittichinaccio / Frantz in Les Contes d´Hoffmann, Remendado in Carmen, the minor Verdi-protagonists of Malcolm, Roderigo, Gastone and Ruiz in Macbeth, Otello, La Traviata and Il Trovatore, Janek in Vêc Makropulos, Tjekalinskij in Pique Dame, Alfred in Die Fledermaus and Antonio in The Tempest, just to name some. Regarding the modern works, Nick in The Handmaids Tale and Tomas in Under the Sky in the world premieres of the operas by Poul Ruders and Bent Sørensen respectively must too be emphasised. Thomas´ debut was back in 1994 as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte with The Youth Opera Company. Engagements at The New Theatre (75 performances of Alfred - and later on Camille de Rosillon in Die lustige Witwe) and The Other Opera (various contemporary danish operas), both situated in Copenhagen, followed along side his activities at The Royal Theatre. In 2012 Thomas sang his first title role in yet another world premiere, Lars Klits Angelo, an opera based on Gabriel García Márquez´ novel, Chronicle of a Death Foretold. In addition Thomas is a sought-after interpreter of the oratorio litterature - his renderings ranging from Bachs Cantatas and Händels Messiah via Mozarts Requiem to Rossinis Petite Messe Solennelle and Puccinis Messa di Gloria; and even Orffs more worldly Carmina Burana. Thomas Peter Koppel is represented on several CD- and DVD-issues, most notably the operetta collections of Wiener Bouquet and Wiener Pavillon (both Soprano Records) recorded with the Hungarian Symphony Orchestra Szeged under the direction of Maestro Tamás Vetö and with the distinguished soprano, Sofie Ottosen, with whom Thomas was entitled ”The Danish Operetta Couple”. In fact Thomas studied with the operetta tenor par excellence, Nicolai Gedda, back in the start of his career - other prominent teachers being the renowned operasingers, Björn Asker, Stig Fogh Andersen and Peter Lindroos.
