Bio


Theodora Raftis is a coloratura soprano from Cyprus, based in Vienna.

She is a part-time member of the Opera Studio of Opera Fuoco in Paris from 2017 to 2019. In addition, she is studying Master’s in Opera at Vienna’s University of Music & Performing Arts, under the guidance of Claudia Visca, supported by the A.G. Leventis Scholarship.

She has won numerous awards, some of which include 3rd Prize in the International Otto Edelmann Singing Competition 2019, 2nd Prize in the International József Simándy Singing Competition 2016; Finalist in the International Éva Marton Singing Competition 2016; 1st Prize in the Edward Brooks English Song Prize 2014; 2nd Prize in the Mario Lanza Opera Prize 2014; and the Joseph Weingarten Scholarship 2014.

Some of the opera roles she has portrayed include Ermione (Oreste), Tonina (Prima la musica e poi le parole), Mademoiselle Silberklang (Der Schauspieldirektor), Ilia (Idomeneo), Despina (Così fan tutte), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Servilia (La Clemenza di Tito), Olympia (Les Contes d'Hoffmann), Blanche de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites) and Greta Fiorentino (Street Scene).

Whereas some of her concert engagements include the title role of Händel's Theodora, Bach's B Minor Mass (BWV 232), Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244), Bach's Der zufriedengestellte Aeolus (BWV 205), Britten's Les Illuminations, Orff's Carmina Burana, Haydn's Die Jahreszeiten, Fauré's Requiem and Rutter's Magnificat. Her solo recital appearances include performances in Müpa (Budapest), Solti Hall (Budapest), Leighton House (London), among others. 

Her musical theatre engagements include songs from The Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Mary Poppins, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Whistle Down the Wind, Tell Me on a Sunday, the operetta Candide, and many more.

She has participated in masterclasses with renowned artists such as Teodor Currentzis, Éva Marton, Sumi Jo, Barbara Bonney, Júlia Hamari, Felicity Lott, Michael Chance, Jenny Drivala and Marco Balderi.

Theodora has made solo appearances in many European countries, the USA, Mexico and on tour in China; with performances in prestigious venues such as Musikverein Vienna, Philharmonie de Paris, Shanghai Symphony Hall, Palacio de Bellas Artes (Mexico City), Cuvilliés Theatre (Munich), De Montfort Hall (Leicester), Grand Hall (Budapest), Müpa (Budapest), as well as many other prominent venues in Hungary.

She has appeared as a soloist in international festivals such as the Budapest Spring Festival, London Festival of Baroque Music and Festival del Centro Histórico. Career highlights include a world tour with conductor Martin Haselböck and Orchester Wiener Akademie; as well as a world tour with conductor David Stern and acclaimed artists Andreas Scholl, Laurent Naouri, Markus Werba and the Tölzer Knabenchor. Other notable engagements include the Modern World Premiere of M. Haydn’s Kaiser Constantin I. Feldzug und Sieg (to be released on CD).
