Bio


A native of suburban Kansas City, Missouri, Taylor Comstock has been hailed as "perfectly suited for the lyric lover” (Lexington (KY) Herald-Leader, 02/2017).

Most recently, Taylor performed at Wolf Trap Opera in Idomeneo (Title Role Cover, Chorus) and Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette (Chorus). His 2017 appearance with University of Kentucky Opera Theatre in La Traviata (Alfredo) was described as “with a warm earnestness” and “consistently lovely of voice” (Lexington Herald-Leader, 10/2017). Taylor has also appeared at UK in Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Conte d’Almaviva), and as part of the Schmidt Opera Outreach Program (SOOP) in a touring production of The Billy Goats’ Gruff (Dandini). Earlier stage credits for Taylor also include La Bohéme (Rodolfo), Don Giovanni (Don Ottavio), Dialogues des Carmélites, and L’Elisir d’Amore.

In concert performance, Taylor appeared most recently in recital as he presented Vaughan- Williams’ “The House of Life” and Lee Hoiby’s “I Have A Dream,” among other works. He performed in 2017 as the Tenor Soloist in Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the University of Kentucky, and in Handel’s Messiah with Ancora Chorale in Kansas City, MO. Concert credits for Mr. Comstock also include multiple performances of Handel’s Messiah, Theofanidis’ The Here and Now, and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. He has also performed in Brahms’ Ein Deutches Requiem, Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine, and J.S. Bach’sChrist lag in Todesbanden.

Taylor has participated in several prestigious competitions, most recently in the 2018 Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition, in which he was a Grand Finalist, and as a Regional Finalist – Central Region, in the 2018 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. He also competed in the 2018 Eleanor McCollum Competition and state and regional levels of the NATS Competition.

Conductors, stage directors, and coaches whom Mr. Comstock has worked with recently include Keith Chambers, Richard Gammon, David Hanlon, Cliff Jackson, Dr. Jefferson Johnson, Cynthia Lawrence-Calkins, Dr. Tedrin Blair Lindsay, Geoffrey McDonald, John Nardolillo, Dr. Casey Robards, Omer Ben Seadia, and Emmanuel Villaume.

Taylor resides in Lexington, Kentucky, where he is pursuing a Master of Music in Voice Performance/Opera at the University of Kentucky. He currently studies with Dr. Everett McCorvey. Future engagements include a Veteran’s Day production of Silent Night (Kronprinz, Nikolaus Sprink Cover) and Madama Butterfly with UK Opera Theatre.
