Praised for her "vocal sovereignty" and "finely nuanced acting,"
Tamara Gallo has established herself as a dynamic singing actress. She is currently moving into the more dramatic repertoire, including roles such as Kundry in Parsifal, La Gioconda, Sieglinde in Die Walküre, and Ortrud in Lohengrin. In 2017 she recorded a Wagner album in the roles of Ortrud, Kundry and Seiglinde with the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra. Ms. Gallo most recently sang Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde at the San Francisco War Memorial Herbst Theater.
In the Fall 2015 Ms. Gallo sang in Vienna and Budapest and was praised for her 'velvety' voice in Neue Oper Wien’s production of The Nose by Shostakovich at the Wiener Kammeroper and MUPA Budapest. In Spring 2016 she reprised her role as "Podtotschina" in the same production at the Teatro Sociale in Trento. With the Estonian National Opera Ms. Gallo sang "with a warm and expressive soprano" in the premiere of Cardillac as the Tochter.
She is also excited to have sung in the world premiere of Georgia Bottoms by composor Gregory Vajda and writer Mark Childress with the Hunstville Symphony Orchestra in February 2015. Mr. Childress's own review stated: "...Tamara brought a vivid stage presence. Her lovely commanding soprano was an intimate counterpoint to the voice of the leading lady; her acting was precise and as warm as her voice."
As an ensemble member of the Staatstheater Mainz, she was lauded for her star turn as Hélène in Offenbach's La belle Hélène,
"shining with a mixture of capricious half-goddess and frustrated housewife."While in Mainz, she also appeared as the Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte and as Marianne Leitmetzerin in Der Rosenkavalier, a role she reprised in Olivier Tambosi's production at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. Ms.Gallo was also invited to guest at the Staatstheater Braunschweig as Die Tochter in
A champion of modern music, Ms. Gallo sang the world premiere of Erik Højsgard's Don Juan kommt aus dem Krieg at the Theater an der Wien, where she was hailed for her "ability to soar over the orchestra." She also performed in the European premiere of Anthony Davis'opera Tania and in the world premiere of Dieter Kaufmann's Requiem für Picoletto at the Neue Oper Wien.
Other roles include Lady Billows in Albert Herring, Ariadne in Ariadne auf Naxos, the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Gertrud in Hänsel und Gretel, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Dido in Dido and Aeneas, Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana, the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, Mimì in La Bohème, Hanna in Die Lustige Witwe, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, and Lucy in The Threepenny Opera.
A regular on the concert stage, Ms. Gallo has appeared in concert with the Salzburg Mozart Ensemble, the Slovak Sinfonietta, the Knoxville Symphony, the Kingsport Symphony Orchestra and as a soloist in Handel's Messiah at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco.
A native of California, Ms. Gallo received her degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory (B.A.) and the University of Tennessee (M.M.), and was a member of the Young Artist Program at the Knoxville Opera Company. She studied acting at the Academy Drama School in London and the Actor's Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, and completed her acting training at the Emmy Award-winning South
Coast Repertory Theatre in Southern California. She is also proud to have studied with the famous Groundlings Theater, UCB and Lesly Kahn in Los Angeles.
Ms. Gallo's passion for the performing has earned her film & TV credits, andmany theater credits such as productions of Our Town, The Vagina Monologues, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Ordinary People. She has also enjoyed touring Europe in musical theater and has performed in productions of Evita, The Pirates of Penzance, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the , and H.M.S. Pinafore.
