Bio

Szymon Makowski, in 2011 graduated from Poznan Academy of Music (symphony and opera conducting as well as violin). During last years he was participating in such conducting competitions as Dmitri Mitropoulos Competition in Athens and W. Lutoslawski Competition in Bialystok (Poland). He was also taking part in several masterclasses – with J. M. R. Tortajada (Murcia, Spain), Gabriel Chmura (Krakow, Poland), Alexander Polishchuck (Faro, Portugal) and three times in Siena, Italy – under the guidance of maestro Gianluigi Gelmetti – where every time he was honored to lead final concerts and in 2011, 2012 and 2013 granted with ‘Diploma of Merit’. He was working as an Assistant conductor with Walter E. Gugerbauer as well as with Tomasz Szreder, Marcin Sompolinski and Andrzej Knap. In 2011 he conducted a concert with Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo to celebrate 100th anniversary of birth of Franco Ferrara. He returned to Sanremo for another concert in the 2012. Apart from that, he conducted many prestigious orchestras such as Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the New Music, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Sofia Festival Orchestra, Orchestra della fondazione Bulgaria Classics, Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra and Orquesta do Algarve. His experience as an Opera conductor includes work in such places as Wroclaw Opera House, Theatre Regensburg, Lublin Musical Theatre, Poznan Musical Theatre and Poznan Opera house. In 2013 he was accepted participant of the 52th Besancon Competition for the Young conductors, where he reached the semifinal stage (last 5). In 2015 he reached semifinal in the Georg Solti Conducting Competition in Frankfurt am Main. From September 2016 he is working as a first guest conductor of the Lower-Silesian Philharmonic starting his cooperation with the orchestra from two succesful concerts - with G. Mahler 5th symphony and O. Respighi Trilogia Romana.
