Bio

Soprano, Susanna R. Lauer is a native of Washington, D.C. American critics have hailed Ms. Lauer for her, “inspiring and powerful voice.” Ms. Lauer first decided to focus on a musical career after singing the title role in the Washington Opera’s North American premier of Brundibar, a children’s opera, when she was just 14 years old, and she has gone on to establish a career in ensemble and solo singing. Ms Lauer currently studies with internationally acclaimed teacher Mr. Neil Semer in New York City and Berlin. She graduated from the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at The Catholic University of America with a Bachelor’s degree of Music in Vocal Performance, and she attended the West Virginia University, where she received a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance. Ms. Lauer has also attended programs at Tanglewood, Massachusetts, Princeton, New Jersey, and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, where she performed in concert the role of Musetta from La Bohème in both Vienna and Graz. Since then, she has performed annually in concert venues in Germany and France. Ms. Lauer’s other roles include Mrs. Nolan in The Medium. Lady Billows in Albert Herring, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte, and other parts in operettas (Offenbach, Gilbert and Sullivan, and Humperdink) in various American venues. Ms. Lauer moved to Dubai in the Autumn of 2012. Before leaving Washington, she performed with The 7 Sopranos, a professional group of singers financed by grants from the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts and various American arts organizations. This group of seven classically trained singers performs in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. areas and in other American locations. At present, she enjoys performing before the enthusiastic audiences of the UAE. She performs regularly with The Emirates Opera Project in venues, such as Zabeel Saray, The Ivy and The Archive. She also has performed as a guest soloist with the Dubai Wind Symphony. In 2014, she had the honor of singing the original compositions of Flemish composer, Dirk Brossé at the Annual Global Thinkers Gala at the Madinat Jumeirah. Ms. Lauer is excited about her upcoming engagement with the National Symphony in Abu Dhabi as the Soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth as well as being the featured entertainment at the International Women’s Day celebrations at the American Consulate here in Dubai. Ms. Lauer also maintains a private voice studio in Dubai.
