Bio

Steve Curylo has appeared as a baritone soloist throughout western New England and beyond for more than 40 years. He has sung with Commonwealth Opera, Connecticut Opera, Greater New Britain Opera, Simsbury Light Opera, Valley Light Opera, Arcadia Players Baroque Ensemble, Farmington Valley Chorale, Hampshire Choral Society, Quabbin Valley Pro Musica, the Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra, and the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. He was a soloist at the Marlboro Music Festival under Blanche Honegger Moyse, and with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic in Poughkeepsie. Engagements with New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players have also taken him to New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia, as well as two complete seasons in New York City. Among Steve&rsquos favorite theatrical roles are Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, Papageno in The Magic Flute and the title roles in Gianni Schicchi and The Mikado, and in oratorio Steve especially favors the solos in Elijah, Messiah, the Brahms and Mozart Requiems and Belshazzar’s Feast. He created three operatic roles: Sheriff Yardley and Dr. Epstein in Ronald Perera’s opera S. (based on a John Updike novel) at Smith College, and Captain Alvarado in Paula Kimper’s opera The Bridge of San Luis Rey with Old Deerfield Productions. Steve also created the baritone solo in Richard Einhorn’s oratorio Voices of Light with Arcadia Players in Northampton. Born in Springfield MA, Steve Curylo earned a Bachelor of Music degree in opera at Hartt College of Music, and is currently in his eighth season as baritone soloist at South Congregational Church in Springfield.
