Bio

French soprano Sophie Boyer is more than an opera singer. Boyer is the name attached to a voice, which offers a rich palette of colours, but is most interestingly the name attached an ever surprising artist who cannot but keep serving music in challenging contexts & projects – from her early ancient & baroque music training (she worked with William Christie, Hervé Niquet) to her recent contemporary creations (for composers such as Lucien Guérinel, Pablo Ramos Monroy, Elzbieta Sikora, Bruno Mantovani, Pascal Dusapin, and Jean-Guy Bailly, and for creations of her own).
On the opera stage, Boyer switches identities with grace, deciphering the intricate psyche of her characters. From Mozart’s Pamina, the Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute), Zerlina, Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Despina (Cosi fan tutte) to Bel Canto’s roles singing Lucia di Lammermoor (Donizetti) or Gilda (Rigoletto, Verdi), Boyer also celebrates her native culture with the French romantic repertoire as Micaëla (Carmen, Bizet), Sophie (Werther, Massenet), Manon (Manon, Massenet). Her ‘adorable Zerlina with full and fruity timbre’ (Opéra Magazine, March 2017) is particularly ‘convincing thanks to the diversity of her palette of nuances and the candour of a constantly round emission’ (La Lettre du Musicien, January 2017).

Dating back to her early musical days as a cellist, Boyer cherishes chamber music. She works in duets with pianists Marie-Elise Boyer – the Boyer sisters were finalists of the French Melody
International Competition in Toulouse- and Alissa Zoubritski, accordionist Thierry Bouchet.
Originally from near Lyons, Boyer is a product of world-renowned music institutions as both a graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique of Lyons, France, and then of the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Great Britain.
