Bio


Sofija Perovic is young stage director, harpsichordist, actress, literary critic and author from Serbia, who lives between Belgrade and Paris. She holds D.M.A. degree in harpsichord from University of Arts in Belgrade and PhD in Literature from University of Belgrade, as well as three master’s degrees: in harpsichord, in French literature and Master 2 degree in Theatre studies - Opera directing from Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris. She is dedicated to promoting opera to the new and young audeinces with her modern and original approach to the opera stage directing which the result of her experience as musician and as actress. She is founder and director of the Association BG ART with which she produced and staged Serbian and regional premiere of Udo Zimmermann's opera "Die Weisse Rose" in 2016. Sofija Perovic successfully debuted as stage director with Jean-Paul Sartre’s drama "Huis clos" in 2012 at Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris and as opera stage director with Monteverdi's "L'Incoronazione di Poppea" in 2014 at Opera and Theatre Madlenianum in Belgrade. Since then she has worked in Bitef theatre in Belgrade and was invited to the prestigious international festival Kotor Art in Montenegro. She worked as assistant of internationally renowned stage directors such as Mariame Clément and Paolo Bosisio. Together with maestro Predrag Gosta and contralto Marijana Mijanovic she was teaching at Belgrade Baroque Academy and was one of the founders of New Belgrade Opera. She is currently working on her third PhD thesis "La dramaturgie musicale et la mise en scène d'opéra contemporaine" at the University Paris 8. As harpsichordist she has performed in numerous concerts in Serbia, Austria and Spain, as soloist and in chamber music ensembles. She followed master classes held by world-renowned artists such as Maggie Cole, Blandine Rannou, Frank Cooper, Shalev Ad-El and many others. From 2008 to 2011 she was awarded the full scholarship to attend Austria Baroque Academy summer school where she got classes from Jory Vinikour, Jeremy Joseph, Nick Parle and Aline Zylberajch-Gester. In 2008 and 2011 she participated at International Manuel De Falla Music festival in Granada, Spain.At the age of 6 she enrolled “Bata Miladinovic dramatic studio” that produced many famous Serbian film and theatre actors. During her studies in Paris she followed acting and stage directing master classes held by Jean-Paul Zennacker, Adel Hakim and Ramiro Lehkuniec. As a teenager she hosted TV program for children and youth at Studio B television channel. She acted in Belgrade theatres such as BITEF, “Dusko Radovic” and “Akademija 28” and in 2006 with the theatre troupe “Les Je-m’en-foutistes” she performed at International theatre festival RITU in Liège, Belgium.As part of her literary activity she participates regularly at the international conferences and meetings of philology and literature and publishes articles in international journals. Her master thesis "Armide et Tosca dans la mise en scène de Robert Carsen" has been published by Presses Académiques Francophones.
