Bio

Norwegian mezzo-soprano Siv Misund holds a Master of music in Performing arts from The Norwegian Academy of Music and will during the coming season premier the roles of Flosshilde (Das Rheingold) with LidalNorth, Dinah (Trouble in Tahiti) with Oslo Opera festival and create the role of Birgit for the world premier of KibergOdysseen for NOSO and Festspillene i Nord Norge. Ms Misund was a recipient of the Ellen Kirby-Smith Rice Scholarship at the CoOPERAtive young artist program in 2010 (Princeton, US) where she worked with coaches such as A. Manoly, S. Ashbaker and D. Birnbaum. In 2011 she was a price winner of the KammerOper Schloss Rheinsberg (Germany), where she performed the role of Nutrice (L’incoronatione de Poppea) to great critical acclaim. In 2013 she sang Lapak in the Cunning little vixen with Bergen National Opera, Frugola (Il Tabarro), Zelatrice (Suor Angelica), Zita (Giannis Schicchi) with the LidalNorth young artist program held in co-operation with the Norwegian National Opera and Ulrica (Un ballo in Maschera) with Oslo Opera festival. Other roles include Zia Principessa (Suor Angelica), Witch  (Hansel und Gretel), Mere Jeanne (Dialoge de Carmelite), Mercedes and the title role in Carmen. Working as a freelance singer in the Oslo area, Ms Misund has been engaged several times at the annual Oslo Opera Festival, with Live Opera in Oslo, and Friends of the Philharmonic as well as the French and the American Embassies in Oslo. In December 2008 she toured New York, Washington and Chicago as one of four soloists sponsored by the New York Opera Society, Kulturentusiastene and the Norwegian Embassy, performing a varied program of Norwegian songs and Opera ensembles. The 2010 Oslo Opera Festival saw her premier 4 roles as part of the festivals opera workshop for contemporary opera. Ms Misund has also worked in the chorus at the Norwegian National Opera on various productions and concerts since 2008. Ms Misund has sung several master classes with teachers such as Fiorenza Cossotto, Trish MacCaffrey, Elizabeth Norberg Schultz, Sarah Walker, Rodger Vignoles, Susanna Eken, and Susan Ashbaker.  She is currently working with voice teacher Michael Harper in London and coaches Marcus Kvits and John Lidal, both working at the Norwegian National Opera.
