Also the Hamburger Abendblatt and Online Musik Magazin are very enthusiastic about him. They find his voice “brilliant” and “warm, naturally flowing”.Drehpunktkultur Salzburg writes about Sergiu Saplacan’s high acclaimed Nemorino, that he shows “noble, occasionally seductive bronze-colored, pearly tenor voice” and plays the young lover with “verve and sensibility”. After his successful debut as Kavalier in Paul Hindemith’s “Cardillac” at the Estonian National Opera in Tallinn, Sergiu Saplacan was reinvited to sing this role during the season 2015/16. Highlights of the upcoming season will be his debut as Alfredo in “La Traviata” and Rodolfo in “La Bohème” in Tallinn.   Other engagements bring him to his hometown Cluj Napoca where he will be singing for the first time Lenski in the new production of “Eugene Onegin”. After graduating with honors his Master Studies in 2012, he received from the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg the Lilli-Lehmann-Medaille, as the best graduate of his year. Following his studies he was engaged at the Hamburg State Opera and was member of the International Operastudio until June 2014. During this time he received numerous excellent references amongst others from Hamburger Abendblatt and Der Opernfreund.  In Hamburg, Sergiu Saplacan had the opportunity to work with great conductors like Simone Young, Asher Fish, Henrik Nánási, Alexander Joel, Sebastian Weigle and singers like Reri Grist, Ann Murray, Andrzej Dobber and George Petean. During the 2014/15 season he was invited in different Productions at the Hamburg State Opera, among others in the new production of “La Belle Hélène” and “Salome”. Furthermore he was engaged for some gala concerts in Germany, Austria, Poland and Spain. Sergiu Saplacan received besides the Lilli-Lehman-Medaille also other prizes in competitions such as the 2nd Prize at the Grandi Voci Competition in 2011. Sergiu Saplacan was born in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. From an early age he had contact with the musical world, singing in the children choir of the Cluj-Napoca Opera, as well as from his father, the renowned Romanian tenor Viorel Saplacan. After his graduation he decided first to study Law at the ‘Facultatea de Drept’ Cluj-Napoca. Later on his passion for music and opera guided him to start his musical studies at the Music Academy in his hometown. In 2007 he moved to Salzburg to study under Prof. Boris Bakow and the pianist Alessandro Misciasci at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. In June 2010 he successfully graduated his Bachelor Studies and was taken in the Opera Class of Prof. Josef Wallnig and Regiseur Eike Gramss. During the two years he made his debut in several Mozarteum Productions, singing the main roles in ‘Die Zauberflöte’ , ‘La Traviata’ , ‘Elisir d’amore’. In 2012 he graduated the Master Studies with honors.
