Bio

Welsh soprano Sara Lian Owen is a graduate of the opera course at the Royal Academy of Music where she was the Howard Milner Scholar. She continues her studies with Janice Chapman. In recent years, Sara has won the coveted Osborne Roberts Blue Riband Prize at The National Eisteddfod, was a semi-finalist in the Mozart Competition and finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary competition.   Sara is extremely grateful for the generous support of the Headley Trust, Arts Council of Wales and The Sickle Foundation.   Her operatic roles include; Barbarina, understudy Echo and Giannetta for Glyndebourne Festival Opera; Girl 1 in Anon, a newly commissioned opera by Errollyn Wallen for Welsh National Opera and Zemfira (Aleko) with The Melos Sinfonia.   Sara has appeared live on BBC Radio Cymru, S4C, BBC2 and has performed at venues including, Mariinksy II, The Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, Kings Place and The Queen Elizabeth Hall. On the concert platform she has performed works by contemporary composers including Ligeti, Thomas Ades, Nicholas Maw, Golijov and Hilary Tann.   Recent engagements include understudy Governess in The Turn of the Screw for Glyndebourne Touring Opera and the title-role in concert performances of the Russian premiere of Gustav Holst’s Savitri with the Melos Sinfonia in St Petersburg. Recent concerts include a tour with Mid Wales Opera and a series of chamber concerts in North Wales with Ensemble Cymru.
