Bio

The Bulgarian bass Rossen Krastev grew up in Gorna Oriahovitza. He was influenced by his musical environment during his childhood. After graduating from the Music High School where he had studied tuba and voice, he went on studying at the National Music Academy in Sofia with Professor Ivanka Ninova. While still studying at the National Music Academy, Mr. Krastev was committed for tours throughout Europe and Asia, where he performed in numerous central roles in his field. After graduation, he had a permanent engagement at the Opera in the city of Plovdiv for two years. Here he expanded his repertoire, and appeared in guest performances in all opera houes and major concert halls in Bulgaria. From 2009 to 2011 Daniel Barenboim invited him to the Opera Studio of the Staatsoper unter den Linden in Berlin, where he sang with Placido Domingo, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Edita Gruberova and Rolando Villazon among others. During that time, Mr. Krastev worked in masterclasses with Brigitte Fassbänder, Francisco Araiza, Deborah Polaski, Patricia McCaffrey and Mirella Freni. After the completion of the master class with Mirella Freni, Rossen Krastev was allowed to perform with the Opera Studio at La Scala di Milano. From 2012 to 2017 Rossen Krastev is engaged at the State Theatre Braunschweig, at which he acquired numerous roles of his Fach and was able to refine them. 2015 he received a scholarship to the Bayreuth Festival and the Sponsoring prize of the City of Braunschweig. In concerts and recitals, Rossen Krastev has developed an extensive repertoire that includes the main oratorios from the baroque to contemporary as well as art songs, orthodox church music or folk songs of his native country. With the State Broadcasting Sofia and the Sofia Philharmonic in particular he has a long-term collaboration. Mr. Krastev holds several grants and awards from different institutions and won several prizes in competitions. Guest engagements have taken him to the Komische Oper Berlin, the Hamburg State Opera, the State Theater Dessau and the Opera in Poznan (Poland). Rossen Krastev lives in Berlin, enjoying an active opera and concert schedule at home and abroad.
