Lithuanian baritone Romanas Kudriašovas, a recent London National Opera Studio alumnus has been described by The Telegraph as having a voice with shades of Alan Rickman in speech and John Shirley-Quirk in song — that certainly catches the ear.
This season Mr. Kudriašovas returns to the Baroque Opera Theatre of Lithuania as Polyphemus in Handel’s Acis and Galatea. He makes his Glyndebourne debut as The Footman in Samuel Barber‘s Vanessa, and Glyndebourne Tour debut as Le Surintendant des plaisirs in Massenet’s Cendrillon and Commissionario in Traviata. He will also perform Sagrestano Tosca for Vilnius City Opera. As a recitalist he presents a programme dedicated to the renowned 20th century baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, celebrating his astonishing career.
Recent engagements have included a re-invitation for a third performance of Amy Lane’s production of Tosca,singing the role of Sagrestano, starring Sir Bryn Terfel as Scarpia and Ms Kristine Opolais as Tosca at the International Eisteddfod festival in Llangollen, the production being previously performed at the Welsh National Opera in Cardiff and the Royal Liverpool philharmonic hall. In his reference Sir Bryn Terfel has described Romanas as „incredibly well prepared“ and „an excellent colleague“, saying that „style and interpretation was evident“ and „his beautiful baritone voice was well suited to the role“.
Other roles of the previous seasons include Il Conte (cover) Le Nozze di Figaro for Glyndebourne festival, Eolo La fida Ninfafor the Lithuanian Baroque Opera Theater, Lockit The Beggar’s Operaand Antenor Dardanuswith the European Opera Centre, Valens Theodorawith the Sacred Opera Berlin, as well as Mr. X in Kalman’s Zirkusprinzessinwith the State Music Theatre in Klaipėda (Lithuania), Bill Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonnywith the Hamburger Symphoniker, and Elviro Serse at Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy.
In the Oratorio repertoire Mr. Kudriašovas has recently sung the bass solo in Bach’s Magnificat at Laeiszhalle in Hamburg with the Hamburg symphony orchestra, conducted by Sir Roger Norrington, and took part in the German premiere of Requiem für Hieronymus Bosch at Elbphilharmonie. The engagements of previous years have taken Mr. Kudriašovas to venues throughout Europe and Asia, including the Luxembourg Philharmonic Hall, The Rudolfinum in Prague, the new Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall, Kanazawa Hall, Tokyo Opera City, Singapore Philharmonic, the Beijing Forbidden City Concert Hall, and others.
Mr. Kudriašovas is also a keen recitalist. He has given recitals in Germany, the UK (including St Marti-in-the-Fields and Europe House in London), the Royal Opera House in Oman, Teatro Vittoria in Turin with Coin du Roi baroque orchestra, as well as in his home country of Lithuania, where he frequently performs at the National Philharmonic Halls of Vilnius and Kaunas.
Mr. Kudriašovas studied singing at the Music and Theatre Academy in Lithuania, Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, and lastly, at the Wales International Academy of Voice with Dennis O’Neill and Nuccia Focile. Supplementing his education he has trained at the Georg Solti Bel Canto Academy with Leo Nucci, Barbara Frittoli,, and Richard Bonynge, as well as taking masterclasses with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
