Bio

Roger Krebs, Bass
Swiss bass Roger Krebs is an artist who puts his relationship with his
audience at the forefront. With his “quality voice, descended from the rare genre of basso profondo”
(Rhein Main Zeitung, 2016), he strives to move audiences and deliver intense and authentic performances.

In 2016 he performed the role of Daland (“Der fliegende Holländer”)
at the Swedish opera festival “Opera pa Skäret” (directed by Sten Niclasson, conducted by Michael Balke with the Svenska Kammarorkestern) and took to the stage as Sarastro in Hamburg with
the Hamburger Symphoniker under the baton of Willem Wentzel. He will revisit this role in the coming
season in Stuttgart, Augsburg and Mannheim (conducted by László Gyükér with the orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera). Engagements in 2015 led Roger Krebs to Sweden for the presentation of a gala concert in celebration of the 750th

anniversary of the Örebro municipality and also for his debut with “Opera pa Skäret”, performing Dr. Grenville in “La Traviata” (conducted by Marcello Motadelli with the Svenska Kammarorkestern). A year earlier, he participated in Manuela Kerer’s interactive performance at the Munich Biennale, among other engagements. The highlight of 2013 was the bass’ debut as Daland in the new production of “Der fliegende Holländer” at the Thüringer Schlossfestspie
(directed by Toni Burkhardt, conducted by Markus L. Frank with the Loh-Orchester Sondershausen).
In previous years, Roger Krebs performed regularly at the Mecklenburgischen Staatstheater in Schwerin (Rocco, il Commendatore, Prince Gremin, Timur, Landgraf, etc.). He was also invited to Aachen, Mannheim, Münster, Stralsund and Greifswald as a guest soloist. His “deep and sonorous bass” (St. Gallen Tagblatt) has repeatedly caught the attention of the press.

As a winner of the Armel Opera Competition 2017
in Budapest, Roger Krebs will take over the role of Sarastro in “Die Zauberflöte” at the Szeged National Theater (Hungary) in 2018, a production that won the ARTE audience prize in 2015.

Roger Krebs received his training at the Mainz Conservatory of Music under the tuition of Sead Buljubasic. He participated in masterclasses with renowned singers Kurt Moll and Harald Stamm, among others, and took part in the Münchner Singschul
at the Bayerische Theaterakademie. The bass took his first singing lessons with Dennis Hall in Bern.
Roger Krebs has collaborated with many renowned directors and conductors, among them
Frank Hilbrich, Henry Akina, Bruno Berger-Gorski and  Wolfgang Quetes, as well as Ivan Törzs, Fabrizio Ventura, Markus Frank and Axel Kober.
Orchestras with which he has worked include the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, the Thüringen Philharmonie and the Westfälische
Philharmonie among others.
