Bio

Regina Freire is a lyric soprano born in Portugal. She graduated from her Bachelors degree (Hons) at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, with honours under the tutelage of Susan Waters. 

Even though Regina comes from a non-musicians family, she started very early musicianship, piano and choir lessons which helped to blossom her passion for music. She finished Grade eight with distinction in Piano, Organ and Singing. 

Regina has won several competitions, including the International Competition of Singing in Fundão (Portugal) in 2013 and 2014, Bomtempo’s Competition (Portugal) 2014 and the National Competition of Singing (Portugal) in 2013 and 14. 

Regina performed in the Songs in the City concerts of Portuguese and Brazilian songs, she sang the soprano solo in Midsummer’s Night Dream by Mendelssohn, and the soprano solos inGloria by Vivaldi, Requiem by Fauré and The Creation and Nelson Mass by Haydn, Mass in D by Dvorak and most recently the solo in Symphony no.4 by Mahler in the Barbican Centre.

In Opera, Regina has interpreted Sevadilha in Guerras de Alecrim e Mangerona by António T. Silva, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas by H. Purcell, Pamina and First Lady in Die Zauberflote by W. A . Mozart, and Micromegas in A trip to the moonby Andrew Norman (UK Premier). 

Regina has worked with several orchestras, such as Orchestra XXI, Guildhall Symphony Orchestra and London Symphony Orchestra, and with conductors like Dinis Sousa, Fernando Marinho, Dominick Wheeler, Simon Halsey, Takuo Yuasa and Sir Simon Rattle. She also worked with renown teachers, as Sarah Walker, Rudolf Piernay, Amand Roocroft, Adrian Thompson, Eugene Asti, Sharon Rostorf, Joan Patenaude-Yarne, Edith Wiens, Susan Bullock, Seigei Leiferkus and Tobias Truniger.
Regina is now a student of the Masters programme at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she is kindly supported by the Hazell Foundation and the Guildhall’s trust.
