Bio

Italian conductor Pietro Billi has been invited for the Summer of 2016 by Maestro Joseph Rescigno to conductd Verdi's Falstaff at La Musica Lirica Festival in Novafeltria, Italy with the Orchestra "Città di Ravenna"; he will also serve on the music staff as a vocal coach and teacher for this five week intensive program for international singers. He joined the Music Staff of the Sarasota Opera as an Assistant Conductor and Vocal Coach for La Bohème, which opened the 2015/16 Season and also worked as a Vocal Coach with the Apprentice Singers. In the Fall of 2015 he made his debut both with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, Italy and the Orchestra Sinfonica "Città di Grosseto", Italy conducting music by Haydn and Beethoven. In the Summer of 2015 he was selected among many young conductors applying from all over the world to attended the conducting course of the prestigious Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy where he has been given the "Diploma di merito" by Maestro Michel Tabachnik He has returned to the Florida Grand Opera (Miami, USA) as the Assistant and Cover Conductor for a production of Madama Butterfly, which opened the 2014/15 FGO Season. He was also invited as a guest conductor for a series of Children's concerts with the Palm Beach Symphony Orchestra at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach in November. He made his debut with As.Li.Co and the Orchestra 1813 at the Teatro Sociale in Como, Italy in 2014 conducting a new production of Aida which was part of the Opera Domani project, with over a hundred performances in 24 of the most important opera theatres of Italy (among them the Teatro Sociale di Como, Teatro degli Arcimboldi of Milan, Teatro Ponchielli of Cremona, Teatro Alighieri of Ravenna, Teatro Comunale of Bologna); he was warmly received by the audiences all over Italy. He made his debut with the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Italy conducting music by Schubert and Stravinsky at the Auditorium Pollini in November 2012. He was honored to be chosen by the members of the orchestra to conduct the concert after participating in the inaugural "Peter Maag" International masterclass/competition for young conductors that took place in Padova. He was invited to conduct the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto in a concert in May 2013 and returned for another engagement in September 2013. Pietro Billi has been the Assistant Conductor of Florida Grand Opera (Miami, USA) and Assistant Conductor of the Palm Beach Symphony Orchestra (Palm Beach, USA) for the 2011/2012 Season. Mentored by Ramon Tebar he assisted on productions of Torroba's Luisa Fernanda (a production of the Teatro Real of Madrid directed by Emilio Sagi), Verdi's Rigoletto and Puccini's La Rondine. He had the honor of collaborating with Plácido Domingo when he came to Miami for a special gala performance of Luisa Fernanda. He conducted a concert with the Palm Beach Symphony Orchestra at the prestigious venue of the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, with a performance by Russian pianist Lola Astanova of the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1. He then conducted two more gala concerts with the Palm Beach Symphony and in all these concerts, he was warmly received by the elite audiences. In addition, he worked as a vocal coach and conducting teacher with the Young Artist Program of Florida Grand Opera and participated in educational outreach programs in the community. He conducted a portion of a collaborative opera scenes program with Florida International University students and Florida Grand Opera Young Artists. He has been for several years the professor of History of Italian Opera and Piano at the Florence University of the Arts (FUA), an institute for foreign students, where he was an active vocal coach and coordinated the musical activities of the school. Pietro Billi was born in 1983 in Italy, where after beginning to study piano at the age of 15, he received a Piano diploma at the Conservatory "L. Cherubini" of Florence and studied Composition in Fiesole (FI). He then finished his conducting studies with Alessandro Pinzauti in the same conservatory, where he received the second level degree in Orchestral Conducting with honors. He also studied conducting with Piero Bellugi in Florence, where he attended Maestro Bellugi's course for two years. Then he studied with Alessandro Pinzauti in Fiesole (Italy), with Lior Shambadal in San Gemini (Italy), with George Pehlivanian in Valencia (Spain) and Mark Stringer in Vienna (Austria), in a Masterclass of the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. He is also an active performer of chamber music and has performed many recitals with singers covering a wide range of repertoire from opera to Lieder.
