Born in 1984, baritone Peter Mazalan, a native of Bratislava /Slovakia/, completed his studies at the University of Performing Arts in Bratislava /opera singing, stage design/ and also at the Slovak Technic University on the Faculty of the Architecture. He is the recipient of prizes in numerous vocal competitions including most recently 1st Prize at the Hilde Zadek International Vocal Competition in Vienna, the Concorso per Giovani Cantanti Lirici D&rsquoEuropa in Como or the International Antonin Dvorak competition in Czech Republic. Mr. Mazalan has already made his professional debut as 23 years old and has appeared at the Slovak National Theater in Bratislava in Smetana’s The Bartered Bride. After short time he sang one of the major role in Haydn’s The Deserted Island conducted by Andrew Parrott. One year later followed title role of Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovski or Puccini´s Schaunard /Konwitschny/ . During the summer 2011 he sang on the Schlesswig – Holstein Musik Festival as Osmin in the Mozart ´s opera Zaide conducted by Leopold Hager. In the season 2010/2012 was Peter Mazalan member of the Operastudio in Bayerische Staatsoper Munchen, where he appeared in titles like La traviata conducted by Carlo Montanaro, La boheme with Marco Armiliato, Janaček´s Jenufa conducted by Tomáš Hanus and Lohengrin, Ariadne auf Naxos and Messiaen´s Saint Francois D´Assise conducted by maestro Kent Nagano and in in the major role in the Haydn´s La fedelta premiata or Purcell´s Fairy Queen or the Forester in the new production of Janacek´s Cunning little vixen. In the season 2012/ 2013 was Mr. Mazalán member of the Stadttheater Klagenfurt where he sang such a roles like Zurga in Les Pecheurs de perles, Forester in Janáček´s Cunning little vixen, Homony in Zigeunerbaron or Ottokar in Freischutz. In National Theatre Prague, Brno and Ostrava Peter Mazalan will perform new production of Janáček´s opera The excurions of Mr. Brouček. He also appeared as a soloist in a concert with the Bayerische Staatsorchester with the Antonín Dvořák´s Biblical songs, then with the orchestra of the Schlesswig – Holstein Musik Festival in Haendel´s Alexander Feast conducted by Rolf Beck and also on concerts with Slovak Philharmonic. Mr. Mazalan sang Mahler´s song cycle des Fahrenden Gesellen during the important Mahler´s annual festival in Czech Republic or had recital in Wiener Musikverein as the winner of the already mentioned Hilde Zadek competition. Recently Peter Mazalan performed Haendel´s Messias with the Munchener Symphoniker and Chorwerk Ruhr in Munich and Essen or Carmina Burana with the Percusive Planet Ensemble /Martin Grubinger/ with the conductor Rolf Beck.
