Dutch baritone Peter Bording studied singing with Jan Handerson, graduated cum laude from the Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam and concluded his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.
His extensive repertoire spans all forms of music theatre.

On the operatic stage, he has portrayed the title roles in IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA and PELLÉAS ET MÉLISANDE to great public and critical acclaim during the Wiener Festwochen at the Theater an der Wien, at the Staatsoper Stuttgart, Staatsoper Hannover, Staatstheater Braunschweig, Oper Graz, Aalto-Musiktheater in Essen, the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam and with the Dutch National Touring Opera.
2015, after highly successful performances as Werner Egks PEER GYNT, Verdi's RIGOLETTO and as John Proctor in Robert Wards THE CRUCIBLE, he also ventured into a heavier repertoire.
Further major roles include Marcello (LA BOHÈME), both Tonio and Silvio (PAGLIACCI), Alfio (CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA), Germont (LA TRAVIATA), Malatesta (DON PASQUALE), Enrico (LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR), Riccardo (I PURITANI), Valentin (FAUST), Albert (WERTHER) and Ramiro (L’HEURE ESPAGNOLE).
He performed Papageno (DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE) in numerous productions, Guglielmo (COSÌ FAN TUTTE), Nardo (LA FINTA GIARDINIERA) and a show stopping Conte Almaviva in Nicholas Broadhurst's production of LE NOZZE DI FIGARO under Marc Albrecht.

In contemporary music, he has created leading roles in opera’s by composers like Peter Eötvös and Michael Jarrell for the opera houses in Lyon, Paris, Geneva and the Munich Biennale.

Brought up with operetta, he is a very sought-after romantic lead for roles such as Danilo (DIE LUSTIGE WITWE), Eisenstein (DIE FLEDERMAUS) and Edwin (DIE CSÁRDÁSFÜRSTIN) and is as highly successful in musical theatre classics by Bernstein (WEST SIDE STORY, CANDIDE), Kern (SHOW BOAT), Lloyd Webber (CATS, EVITA, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA), Porter (KISS ME, KATE) or Sondheim (A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC).
He created the role of Antonio in Brigitte Fassbaender and Stephan Kanyars musical SHYLOCK!.

Concert works like Bach's PASSIONS, Mahler's LIED VON DER ERDE and Orffs CARMINA BURANA, also take a prominent place in his repertoire. He made his US debut with the Christ solo in the MATTHEW PASSION at the DAR Constitution Hall, Washington DC. 

Peter Bording is a regular guest in many of the German opera houses and festivals, such as the Komische Oper Berlin (Eisenstein, Fred Graham, Bratfisch/MARINKA), Staatsoper Stuttgart (Pelléas, Papageno, Moralès), Staatsoper Hannover (Pelléas, Danilo, Silvio), Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Danilo), Nationaltheater Mannheim (Papageno, Melot), Oper Frankfurt (Marullo), the Richard-Strauss-Festival in Garmisch-Partenkichen (Da-ud/DIE ÄGYPTISCHE HELENA), the Münchener Biennale (world premiereR AMANUJAN), the theatres in Dortmund, Bonn, Wiesbaden, Gießen, Koblenz, Bielefeld, Schwerin, Bremen, Wuppertal and many, many others. 
Furthermore, he was the leading lyric baritone at the famed Aalto-Musiktheater in Essen for well over a decade.
 
International engagements brought him to the Bregenzer Festspielen in Kurt Weills DER PROTAGONIST and ROYAL PALACE, to the Wiener Festwochen as Pelléas, l’Opéra comique Paris and l’Opéra national de Lyon (world premiere LADY SARASHINA), Grand Théâtre de Genève (world premiere GALILÉE), Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre (Eisenstein, Danilo), Theater Basel (Papageno), Hungarian State Opera Budapest (Melot), Teatr Wielki Warsaw - Polish National Opera (LADY SARASHINA), Dutch Touring Opera (Figaro, Papageno, Cecil/MARIA STUARDA, Maximilian/CANDIDE, Mercure/ORPHEUS IN THE UNDERWORLD) and to the opera and concert stages in Amsterdam, Enschede, Brussels, Antwerp, Cologne, Innsbruck, Luzern, Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, Kanazawa and Washington DC.
 
He has worked under the baton of conductors Adam Fischer, Marc Albrecht, Yakov Kreizberg, Lothar Zagrosek, Stefan Soltesz, Mstislav Rostropovitsch, Carlo Franci, Phillipe Auguin, Peter Eötvös, Helmuth Rilling, Koen Schoots, Peter Falk and with numerous prominent directors such as Barry Kosky, Dietrich W. Hilsdorf, Johannes Schaaf, Nicolas Brieger, Elmar Gehlen, Michael Sturminger, Georg Schmiedleitner, Hugh Hudson, Ushio Amagatsu, Guy Joosten and Frank Van Laecke.

In 2017 he made his debut at the Opéra Bastille in Paris in DIE LUSTIGE WITWE, sang Silvius in Oscar Straus' operetta DIE PERLEN DER CLEOPATRA at the Komische Oper Berlin, Albert in Massenets WERTHER as well as Tonio and Alfio during a series of concert performances of CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA and PAGLIACCI at the Staatstheater Braunschweig.
He furthermore both hosted and sang an OPERETTA GALA in Braunschweig as well as the concert series MUSICAL MEETS OPERA with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra at De Doelen in Rotterdam.
 
2018 will see him in two role debuts at the Opernhaus des Theaters Magdeburg with the title role in Von Einems DANTONS TOD and Scarpia in Puccini's TOSCA, Danilo in a new production of DIE LUSTIGE WITWE at Theater Erfurt and in concert at the Staatstheater Braunschweig, Eisenstein in a new production of DIE FLEDERMAUS at Theater Freiburg, Tonio in an open air performance of PAGLIACCI in Castelfrentano and he continues as Silvius at the Komische Oper Berlin.
