Bio

Per Høyer (bassbaritone) started studying music at Copenhagen University in 1980. After having taken the Master Degree of Singing in 1985, P.H. continued the singing studies with John Guttmann Sørensen as well as interpretation with Friedrich Gürtler, Principal of the Opera Academy in Copen­hagen.For shorter periods of time P.H. has attended masterclasses with Anna Reynolds, Ingrid Bjoner, Ilse Wolf, Vera Rozsa and Richard Miller. Being one of his generations most versatile singer, P.H. has a repertoire stretching from baroque to contemporary music, covering sacred music, lieder, opera, operetta and musical. This has meant participation in numerous concerts with The Danish Radio, The Swedish Radio, South-WestGerman Radio, Austrian Radio, covering live concerts and radio recordings for broadcasting in Denmark, Scandi­navia, Europe and USA and CD recordings (of which several have been Grammy awarded in Denmark) in collaboration with conductors as Järvi, Segerstam, Salonen, Rozhdestvensky, Tabachnik, Viotti and Weller, as well as singers as Bruson, Behrens, Döse, Hollweg, Isokoski, Meier, Miricioiu, Salminen, Vinzing and Wixell.In 1993 P.H. made his debut in the famous "Grosse Musikverein" in Vienna.P.H. has sung with all the Danish symphony orchestras and given numerous recitals and church concerts in Scandinavia, Germany, Austria, France and USA.During several periods P.H. has been freelancing all over Europe. From 1992-1994 he had a permanent appointment with the Nürnberg Opera, and started his engagement at The Royal Theatre in Copenhagen in 1995.As from 2008 P.H. is working as free-lance singer. Throughout his career P.H. has accumulated a wide range of leading parts in the opera repertoire. Among others to be mentioned are participation in: (Denmark) Aida, Ariadne auf Naxos, Un ballo in Maschera, Il Barbiere di Sevilla, La Bohème, Carmen, La Cenerentola, Les Contes D’Hoffmann, Don Carlos, Don Giovanni, L'elisir d'amore, Falstaff, Die Fledermaus, La Forza del Destino, Der Freischütz, Gianni Schicchi, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Lohengrin, Lucia di Lammermoor, Die Lustige Witwe, Madame Butterfly, Macbeth, Manon Lescaut, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Otello, Salome, Simon Boccanegra,Tannhäuser, Tosca, La Traviata, Trouble in Tahiti, Il Trovatore, Turandot, Les Vêspres Siciliennes, Werther, Die Zauberflöte, (Austria) Ariadne auf Naxos, Carmen, (Sweden) Jenufa, Madame Butterfly, Tosca, (Germany) L'Ange de feu, Don Giovanni, Der Freischütz, Hänsel und Gretel, LaJuive,  Oberon, Wozzeck, Die Zauberflöte, (New Zealand) Don Giovanni.  Furthermore P.H. sang in 1990 the title role in a tele­vision production of Gianni Schic­chi with the Danish Radio and Tele­vision and ”Jago” in Othello in 2001 and ”Sprecher” in Die Zauberflöte in 2003 in live recordings from The Royal Theatre. In 2011 sang P.H. in a DVD recording of Janaceks“Jenufa”.P.H. has recorded soundtracks for several movies, the latest being the Danish version of "Gaston" from The Beauty and the Beast and "Jethro" in Prince of Egypt.P.H. received in August 1991 The Victor Borge Music Grant, in August 1993 The Aksel Schiøtz Memorial Price, in April 2002 The Memorial Grant of Kammersänger Wilhelm Herold, in June 2002 The Grant of Kammersänger Otto Steenberg and again in November 2008 The Memorial Grant ofTorben Anton Svendsen. In November 1998 Queen Margrethe II. appointed P.H. Knight of the Dannebrog Order.
