Soprano, Orla Colleton was born in Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland. She graduated from Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT) with a BA in Applied Music with specialisation in Solo Performance and went on to complete a Postgraduate Higher Diploma in Music Education from Trinity College, Dublin. In 2011 she completed a Masters in Music (Performace) in Dublin Institute of Technology: Conservatory of Music and Drama where she studied with Mary Brennan, then subsequently at the Advanced Performers Studio in London. She has also completed a Diploma in Community Music and Group Teaching from the Royal Irish Academy of Music.  ​A classically trai​ned Coloratura Soprano, Orla’s first love is opera but she also enjoys performing light opera, musical theatre and sacred music. She has taken part in full scale productions and opera scenes including: Clorinda (Cenerentola - Zezere Arts Festival, Portugal), Ellen (Peter Grimes – APS, UK), Fiordiligi (Cosi fan Tutte – APS, UK), Noemie (Cendeillon – DIT), Laura Nolan (Shelter Me From The Rain – World Premier, Aired on Lyric FM Radio), Maritana (Wallace, Balfe & Mr. Bunn – World Premier, Theatre Royal), Mabel (Pirates of Penzance – NMS), Mother (Madama Butterfly – Lyric Opera Productions), Vittoria (The Gondoliers – Festival Productions , NCH & Buxton Opera House, UK) Adina (cover, L’Elisir d’Amore – DIT), Suzanna (cover, Le Nozze di Figaro – DIT), Governess (Turn of the Screw - IVM), 2nd Nursemaid (Street Scene - IVM), Carmela (Mese Mariana - IVM), Papagena (The Magic Flute - IVM), As a chorus member of Lyric Opera Productions Ireland, she has taken part in productions such as La Traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor, Norma, The Magic Flute and The Elixir of Love. ​​Concert engagements have included : Soprano Soloist (Masterpieces of World Opera and Ballet – NCH, where she also held the title ‘Artistic Director of Opera’), Soprano Soloist (A Little Light Music – ESB MADSOC , Helix), Solo soprano in (Temptations – Lyric Opera Productions, NCH), Beethoven Choral Fantasy (Kilkenny Arts Festival), The Annual Celtic Festival (Belgium), Llangollen International Music Festival (Wales), Irish/Cultural Festival (Germany). She regularly performs and raises funds for different charities across Ireland. ​Musical theatre performances have included: Sarah and Wallia (The Cloak - World Premier and Irish Tour), Ellie (Showboat - Glad Productions), soprano soloist (Showstoppers at Christmas - GMS), Maria (Westside Story - CBS), Sarah (Guys & Dolls - CPC), Mary Magdalene (Jesus Christ Supstar - TYT). As a chorus member of the Rathmines and Rathgar Musical Society she has taken part in the mikado (NCH) and in the Rodgers & Hammerstein Concert, accompanied by the RTE National Symphony Orchestra (NCH). ​​Orla Has taken part in masterclasses with distinguished coaches, directors and performers such as : Nicole Tibbels (NOS), Mary Plazas, Selina Candell, Jonathan Hinden (Glyndebourne), Alessandro Talevi (Opera North),Janice Chapman, Andrew Watts, Brindley Sherratt, Norbert Meyn, Olivia Fuch (ROH, ENO), Rory Bremner, Sam Krum (Roger Guilder & Co.), John Evans (GSMD), Elizabeth Richie (RAM), John Ramster (RAM), Chrisopher Cowell (Glyndebourne), Neil Jenkins and Brian Parsons. ​Up-coming engagements include performances as guest soprano for various concerts. In 2013 Orla premiered Irish composer, Glen Austin’s award winning new compositions ‘Night’s Final Breath’ and 'The Wait' as part of the Castletown House recital series, along with seminars in DIT. The recording of 'The Wait' was recently completed in DIT, Dublin. To listen to 'The Wait', please follow the link to the composer's soundcloud page: https://soundcloud.com/glenaustin/the-wait Orla is part of Scottish Opera's Freelance Chorus, and in 2013 she took part in an interview and photoshoot as part of a group of up and coming Irish performers for CULT Magazine (Ireland).
