Described in International Record Review as «definitely a name to look out for», Norwegian lyric baritone Ørjan Hartveit has performed in many European cities such as Bergen, Cologne, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Heraklion, Kristiansand, London, Oslo, Prague and Vilnius, as well as in Bloomington (IN) and New York. Recent highlights include the world première of Tore Vagn Lid's The Gospel of Judas with BIT20 Ensemble at the Norwegian National Opera and concerts with Musica Ficta in Denmark and Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble in Sweden. Ørjan Hartveit's repertoire spans across the works of Bach, Händel, Charpentier and Graupner to Romantic, 20th-century and contemporary composers. He has premièred Hampson Sisler's Music In The Soul with Ensemble du Monde at the Merkin Hall (New York), and Henrik Ødegaard's incidental music for Heilagbrotet in Norway. On the operatic stage he has performed Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas) for New Essex Choral Society (London); Il Conte (Le nozze di Figaro) for St John's Opera Company (Maidenhead); Lakai/Haushofmeister (Ariadne auf Naxos) with Ensemble du Monde (New York); Raguel's Men (Jonathan Dove: Tobias and the Angel) for English Touring Opera; Dr. Hasselbacher (Our Man In Havana) at Greenwich Theatre (London) and St. Olaf (Spelet om St. Sunniva) at Hardanger Musikkfest, Norway. Roles in preparation include Billy Budd, Dr Malatesta, Frank/Fritz, Harlequin, Morales, Papageno, Silvio and Wolfram. Hartveit has recorded works by Ralph Vaughan Williams for choir and solo baritone on the album Where Hope is Shining (Albion Records) with Joyful Company of Singers/Peter Broadbent and songs by Geirr Tveitt on the recently released Geirr Tveitt – Piano Works and Songs (KinnePiano). A new disc of works by British composer Stuart Murray Turnbull is expected to be released in 2014. Ørjan Hartveit studied with Omar Ebrahim at Trinity College of Music, London, and later with Russell Smythe. He has also appeared in master classes with Elly Ameling, Graham Johnson, Malcolm Martineau and Mikko Franck, and was awarded the Cyril Cork Prize (2003) for «outstanding performance» and the TCM Trust Silver Medal (2005).
