Bio

Olivier Murith, born in 1977, started music at the age of 5. After training as a cellist, he studied piano, voice and music theory at the Conservatoire de Fribourg where he graduated in 2003 with a Music education Degree in secondary schools. Having started out as assistant to the Youth Orchestra of Fribourg with Theophanis Kapsopoulos, he learned choral conducting with Laurent Gendre. He also took courses at the Hochschule der K&uumlnste Bern with Dominique Roggen, Jan Dobrzelewski and Graziella Contratto, but  also with great masters such as Colin Metters, Lior Shambadal and Romolo Gessi. He graduated in June 2015 a Diploma of Advanced Studies in orchestral conducting “with honors”. Meanwhile, he performed studies in history and geography at the University of Fribourg. In 2005, he obtained his Master of Arts.  Since 1999 he has been Music Director of the Orchestre de la Ville de Bulle. He also directed several church choirs. In 2005 he founded with Jérôme Maradan and became music director of the Opera des Champs, a combination that produces a semi-professional opera every two years in Bulle. Pergolesi’s La Serva padrona, Rossini’s L’Inganno Felice and Chabrier's L'Étoile are among his repertoire. He conducted in November 2014 Mozart's Don Giovanni.
