Bio


Olivier Dhénin, graduated with a degree in literature from Paris VII and is now a writer himself of theatre and poetry. Parallel to his degree in the literary arts, he studied music at the National Conservatory in Amiens and graduated in 2004. From 2006 to 2008 he was in charge of the artistic coordination at the Théâtre du Châtelet. From 2013 to 2015 he worked as artistic collaborator of Eric Vigner, director of Centre dramatique national de Bretagne. In 2015-2016, Olivier Dhénin was a resident at Villa Médicis - Académie de France à Rome. This season, he is Anne Schlumberger Foundation Laureate for writing in Treilles Estate.

In 2008 he directed THE DEATH OF TINTAGILES by Maeterlinck at the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles. Then, he created ORPHANS by Rainer-Maria Rilke at the Cartoucherie de Vincennes (Théâtre du Chaudron, 2010), THE EERIE FEAST after Alain-Fournier for the hun-dredth anniversary of the « The Lost Estate » (Rochefort, La Coupe d’Or 2013), PELLEAS AND MELISANDE by Claude Debussy (Paris, Réfectoire du Lycée Saint-Louis, 2014), JULIUS CAESAR JONES by Malcolm Williamson (Opéra de Vichy, 2014), AN ICELAND FISHERMAN after Pierre Loti (Rochefort, 2015). CORDELIA after KING LEAR by Shakespeare, (Théâtre de Belleville, Paris, 2016), A DREAM ISLAND by Reynaldo Hahn (Athénée Théâtre, Paris, 2016). For a few years, he produced some opera in Théâtre de la Coupe d’Or, Rochefort, where his company is based : THE LITTLE MERMAID by Germaine Tailleferre (2015, World stage première), THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL by August Enna (2016), THE LITTLE SWEEP by Benjamin Britten (2017), THE CHILD AND THE MAGIC SPELLS by Maurice Ravel (2018).

For Debussy centennial national celebration, Olivier Dhénin created THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER the famous unfinished opera after Edgar Allan Poe, completed by the libretto wrote by the composer and some piano preludes.
