Countertenor Mikel Uskola performs a broad range of music including baroque opera and song, with a special interest in the German song repertoire, trying to expand and explore new repertoire options for countertenors.

He began his singing studies at the Conservatorio Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga in Bilbao in 2011 and continued to the Conservatorio Superior de Música Joaquín Rodrigo (Valencia) in 2013. In 2014 he transferred to study at the RCM, where he will graduate 2017 and continue to the MPerf programme. Mikel is currently studying under the tutelage of Sally Burgess and Nancy Cooley.

Among the complete operatic roles he has sung are: Goffredo (Rinaldo) 2013 in Auditorio Ribarroja, Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) 2014 in Auditorio CSMV, Didymus (Theodora) and Orfeo (Orfeo ed Euridice) both in concert version during 2015 in Auditorio CSMV, as well as Prinz Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) in 2016. He has also performed Tolomeo in Handel's Giulio Cesare and Oberon in Britten's A midsummer night's dream  for RCM opera scenes, directed by Stuart Barker and under Jonathan Kenny and Simon Pettite.

Mikel’s oratorio work includes: Magnificat  in D major (Bach) 2013 in Palau de la Musica Valenciana, Membra Iesu Nostri (Buxtehude) 2014 in Sagunt in Excelsis festival and B minor mass  in Auditorio CSMV.

Mikel is a member of the RCM Chamber Choir and has been part of Euskeria and Landarbaso Abesbatza choirs, taking part in several international choir competitions in Tolosa, Spittal an der Drau and Arezzo.
