Bio


Michelle Mallinger received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance from San José State University in California. At the Royal Conservatory of The Hague she received her Bachelor of Music degrees in Choral Conducting and Singing. Michelle received her post-graduate diploma in opera from the Flanders Operastudio in Ghent, Belgium.

Masterclasses with Anthony Rolfe Johnson, Barbara Hannigan, Peter Kooy, Margreet Honig, Elly Ameling, Edith Mathis, Jill Feldman, Michael Chance, Nelly Miricioiu, Hanna Schwarz and Frank van Aken.

Michelle has a passion for the music of Poulenc, Puccini, Dvorak, Richard Strauss, Verdi and Mozart. Michelle's voice is a full lyric soprano that bridges over to the lighter spinto roles. Next to her freelance singing career and voice studio, Michelle is also finishing her degree in Speech-Language Therapy (Logopedie). 

She was a member of the Hamburger Kammeroper’s production of La Cenerentola where she sang the title role 52 times. In 2016 and 2017 Michelle has been performing Poulenc's opera for solo soprano La Voix Humaine throughout the Netherlands together with renouwned opera stage director Hans Nieuwenhuis. She has sung solos with such conductors as Reinbert de Leeuw, Jos Vermunt, Arie van Beek, Carlo Rizzo and Erik van Nevel.


Michelle currently studies with Roberta Cunningham, Neil Semer and stage director Hans Nieuwenhuis.

As a mezzo-soprano she was a finalist in the Concours International de Chant Baroque de Chimay and a semi-finalist in both the Brunnenthaler Competition for Early Music in Austria and the Spazio Musica competition in Orvieto.  


Michelle has both Dutch and US citizenship with her main residence being in Haarlem, The Netherlands. She switched to the soprano Fach in 2010.
