Meryl Dominguez, a native New Yorker, is a freelance singer and voice teacher. A recent graduate from Oberlin College and Conservatory, she received a Bachelor of Music in Voice as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Dance. Ms. Dominguez studied with Associate Teacher of Voice Lorraine Manz, a member of the American Academy of Teachers of Singing. During her time at Oberlin, she performed three lead roles and participated in numerous masterclasses and concert performances. Full roles include ‘Rosalinda’ from Strauss' Die Fledermaus, ‘Flaminia’ from Haydn's Il mondo della luna, and ‘Le Feu/La Princesse/Le Rossignol’ from Ravel's l'Enfant et les sortileges. Ms. Dominguez was honored to have been recently named as the first ‘Marilyn Horne Rubin Scholar,’ a scholarship given by Ms. Horne to a student who shows extreme promise for a vocal career. She will also be attending the prestigious Music Academy of the West this summer to cover ‘Clorinda’ in Rossini’s La Cenerentola. Last summer she attended Oberlin in Italy as one of the Concert Artists, a small group that toured Tuscany while working closely with renowned coaches Danielle Orlando and Miah Im. She also attended The CoOPERAtive program as a Fellow, and coached intensively with Eric Weimar. Through this program she also had the opportunity to cover and coach the full role Marie from La fille du regiment. In addition to her passion for operatic repertoire Ms. Dominguez holds a great love for art song and new music. Her recital work has included works from Debussy, R. Strauss, Benjamin Britten, Poulenc, Rachmaninov, Wolf, and selections from John Musto's Penelope (2005). As a Double Degree student at Oberlin, she also majored in Dance, concentrating on the narrative and storytelling aspects of dance. Her experimental contemporary solo, Rejazz, which was featured in Fall Forward '13, blended abstract movement and song, telling the story of heartbreak and personal redemption. Ms. Dominguez is comfortable incorporating voice and movement and continues experimenting with blending these two art forms. In her free time, she loves to bake pastry, blues dance, learn new things, and spend time with friends and family.
