Bio

Luka Ortar (born June 21, 1985) started his music career by playing the trumpet,
which saw him successfully completing six grades of basic music education. He
soon enrolled in Srednja glasbena in
baletna šola Ljubljana (The Ljubljana Music and Ballet Conservatory) and
subsequent to the three years of singing lessons with prof. Janko Volčanšek, he
further improved his technique under the tutelage of prof. Matjaž Robavs and
prof. Helena Fojkar-Zupančič.

Prior to his solo debut, Luka was a member of Veter Chamber Choir as well as a member
of Ave Chamber Choir. Apart from participating in the Slovenian National
Theatre Opera and Ballet (SNG Opera in balet) project choir, he
continues to work with the RTV Slovenia Chamber Choir performing at concerts
and project recording sessions for the RTV Slovenia archives.

He attended seminars for solo vocalists with prof. Giorgio Surian, prof. Dunja
Vejzović and received consultations from Marcos Fink, to name but a few. In the
academic year 2015/2016 he successfully finished study of singing with master
degree at Zagreb Academy of mucis in the class of prof. Dunja Vejzović. He sang
main man role Claudio from Agrippina (Händel) at HNK (Croatian National Theatre).
Luka not only received three gold plaquettes in his category at the
all-Slovenian state competition TEMSIG – the third place in 2006 and the
first place in 2008, 2010 and 2013 – he also did exceptionally well by scoring
99 points out of 100, while in 2010 he received an award for the best
performance of the compulsory piece. As the award winner he performed at the
Slovene Philharmonic for a recording session of RTV Slovenia as well as in the
Great Hall of the Slovene Philharmonic with the Orchestra of the Slovenian National
Theatre Opera and Ballet
Ljubljana.

In 2012 he auditioned for Emmanuel Villaumeu and was chosen as a deputising singer
for the role of Bertrand in Tchaikovsky's Iolanta, which took him on a
one-month European tour in November 2012 with Anna Netrebko, the Slovene
Chamber Choir and the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra.
In the summer of 2014 Luka took an active part in
the Oper oder Spree seminar in Berlin where he was awarded Best
interpreter of the course. In May 2015 he won the Lav Mirski International
Competition in Osijek, Croatia, and came second in Luventus Canti,
Slovakia, that same month. Premiered in June 2015 at HNK (Croatian
National Theatre), Rijeka, Luka covered Don Giovanni's Leporello, which
was also his debut role in 2016. Last but not least, in June 2015 he was
selected to participate in the final
round of the NEUE STIMMEN International Singing Competition in Munich.

In March 2017 he will preforme Figaro in SNG Opera
and ballet Ljubljana, Slovenia.
