Bio

Endowed with a dark and mellow voice timbre and an intense volume, Luigi Schifano is considered one of the leading Italian countertenors. He was born in Naples and at age 7 began studying Piano and later Singing at the Conservatoire of Music "Licinio Refice" in Frosinone. He attended the Opera Studio of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia of Rome, under the guidance of Renata Scotto. He also attended Masterclass with Sara Mingardo at the Early Music Center “Pietà de’ Turchini” in Naples and several Masterclasses with Sonia Prina. Luigi Schifano made is debut in 2007 at Auditorium Parco della Musica Rome in "Opera Studio" lead by Renata Scotto, after that he debuted in several Theaters like: Stadttheater - Klagenfurt AT, Theatro Municipal - San Paulo BR, Macedonian Opera, Skopje MK. He collaboreted with Conductors such Attilio Cremonesi, Alessandro D'Agostini, Rodolfo Fischer.Debuted Roles: Giulio and Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare, HandelOrlando in Orlando Furioso, HandelTolomeo in Tolomeo Re d'Egitto, HandelOrfeo in Orfeo e Eurudice, GluckOttone in Incoronazione di Poppea, MonteverdiRuggiero in Orlando Furioso, VivaldiFederico Garcia Lorca in Ainadamar, GolijovOberon in Midsummer Night's Dream, BrittenLuigi Schifano is a winner of a Special Prize at the International Vocal Competition Riccardo Zandonai in Riva del Garda edition 2010, a Special Prize at Ottavio Ziino Competition of Rome, in November 2011 as well as a Winner of the Sacred Music section at the Santa Chiara Competition in Naples in 2012.
