Hailed as “a gifted tenor” (China Daily), Lucas van Lierop is a versatile singer, performing in operas, oratorios, and song recitals. He has performed with many premiere ensembles and artistic organizations, including the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, The Vancouver Opera, The Hartford Chorale, Opera Theatre Connecticut, Opera McGill at the Schulich School, and MusicFest Vancouver.

This season Lucas will sing the title role in Milhaud’s Le Pauvre Matelot with Yale Opera, and the tenor solo in Carmina Burana with the Yale Symphony Orchestra. Last year he appeared in the role of Snout in Benjamin Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, and as Juan in Massenet’s Don Quichotte, both also with Yale Opera.

This January Lucas participated in SongFest, where he studied Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin with Sir Thomas Allen, and Graham Johson.

Born in Hilversum, the Netherlands, Lucas completed his Masters in Vocal Performance at McGill University, in Canada, studying under the guidance of Sanford Sylvan and Michael McMahon. Lucas is currently studying under the guidance of professors Richard Cross and Doris Yarick Cross at the Yale School of Music, where he is pursuing a Masters of Musical Arts in Opera Performance.
