Bio

Luca Ripanti graduated in flute at the Alessandria Conservatoire (Italy) with prof. Barbara Klein. After working with many symphony and opera orchestras, he pursued the baroque flute, studying for four years (1992/95) at the « International Harpsichord Summercourses » of Oporto (Portugal) and received a scholarship from the European Community. From 1982 to 1999, Ripanti taught flute and chamber music in several music schools throughout Italy. He performed as a soloist with ancient music ensembles and baroque orchestras with period instruments in Italy, Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal and Tunisia. He has been working under the baton of conductors such as Simon Preston, Pál Németh and Jean-Claude Malgoire. As a performer, he recorded several CDs with works by G.P. Telemann, J. Kuhnau and J.S. Bach, and one of the four Bach authentic flute Sonatas and the Partita in A minor. He also plays cello as an amateur musician, performing with chamber groups and amateur orchestras. As a musicologist, Luca Ripanti translated and published the Italian critical edition of the following works: 1) - "Treatise of Orchestration" (1873) by N. Rimsky-Korsakov, in 1992 2) - "On playing the flute" (1752) by Johann Joachim Quantz, in 1992 3) - "The interpretation of the music of XVII and XVIII centuries" (1915) by Arnold Dolmetsch, in 1994 4) - "The three treatises on the violin by Francesco Saverio Geminiani” (1748-1751) in 1997 5) - “Six violin lessons" (1981) by Yehudi Menuhin in 2010 All of these works have been published by Rugginenti Editore in Milan. 6) He recently finished his edited translation of the "Violinschule" (1756) by Leopold Mozart , published in June 2012 by Edizioni Prhomos, Perugia. Luca Ripanti also works as Artistic Secretary of the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai (National Symphonic Radio Orchestra) one of the three major symphonic orchestras in Italy, since 1999.
