Bio


Dutch Contralto Liza Rebecca van der Peijl (1992) obtained her Bachelor Degree in Opera Singing at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of The Hague (Holland) in 2013 as a student of Sasja Hunnego. After this, Liza moved to Italy to study with mezzosoprano Laura Polverelli at the Istituto di Alta Formazione Musicale Rinaldo Franci. In 2016 she concludes her Masters at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in London under tutelage of Julie Kennard with Distinction.

Liza has developed an extreme passion for Renaissance and Baroque Music, although she also loves to sing composers as Mozart, Rossini and Verdi. In various opera recitals in Italy Liza performed Rossini appearing in the roles of: Isabella (L'Italiana in Algeri), Malcolm (La donna del Lago), Tancredi (Tancredi) and Lucia (La gazza Ladra). In 2015 Liza was selected for the Georg Solti Accademia in Castiglione della Pescaia (Italy) and sang in Master classes with Leo Nucci, Barbara Frittoli and Richard Bonyngue.

At the RAM Opera Scene Concerts Liza performed as Cornelia (Giulio Cesare), Nurse (Jevgeni Onegin), Older woman (Flight) and Blumenmädchen (Parsifal). In the summer of 2016 Liza performs her debut with Guardiagrele Opera, a project led by the famous soprano Susanna Rigacci, in Pergolesi's 'Lo frate 'nnamorato' where Liza appears in the role of Luggrezia. Furthermore, Liza sings in various opera recitals at the ‘Foyer Amici della Lirica Firenze’ in collaboration with the Opera Theatre 'Maggio Musicale Fiorentino'. In December 2016 Liza has been one of the soloists in a concert  of the Messiah by Händel with the Orchestra of the Scala Milano. 

Former General director of the Chicago Opera Theater Brian Dickie describes Liza as: 'A big personality, natural performer, and of vocal distinction'.

She also has a rich experience as an Oratorio Singer. Liza sang in the celebrated Royal Academy of Music/Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series and participated in a performance of the St. John's Passion by Bach conducted by Ian Ledingham. Furthermore, Liza performed for instance as a soloist in the Gloria of Vivaldi, the Stabat Mater of Pergolesi, various Cantatas for Alto solo by Vivaldi and the Missa fatta a Dispetto di Fabbrini led by Michele Manganelli and Sergio Balestracci. In order to specialize even further in the Baroque repertoire Liza has followed Master classes by experts of the Baroque repertoire and is regularly coached by Sara Mingardo, Roberta Invernizzi, Michael Chance, Laura Polverelli and Maestro Federico Sardelli.
Liza has won prizes and has been a finalist at the 'Concorso Nazionale di Esecuzione Musicale ‘Città di Riccione’ at the 'Premio Crescendo Competition', the ‘Anita Cerquetti’ opera competition, the ‘Giulio Neri’ competition and in April 2016 the competition ‘G. B. Rubini’. IN March 2017 Liza was one of the winners of the opera competition 'Città di Rapallo' and she won the role of Maddalena in Verdi's Rigoletto.
