The 2012/13 season saw her first permanent engagement in the solo-ensemble of the Theater Muenster, in North Rhine- Westphalia, where audiences responded enthusiastically to her interpretation of such lyric-coloratura roles as Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Siebel (Faust), Dorabella (Cosi fan tutte), Muse/Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), as well as her appearances with the Muenster Philharmonic Orchestra including Ravel’s Shéhérazade, Berlioz’ Les Nuits d’Été, the Pergolesi Stabat Mater and Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony.
A highly sought-after Handel singer, Lisa Wedekind has appeared in leading roles at prestigious Baroque festivals, including Cyrus (Belshazzar) with Marcus Creed at the Luzern Festival, Juno and Ino (Semele) with George Petrou at the Bern Opera Theatre, and the title role in Ariodante with Kobie van Rensburg and Fabizio Ventura as part of the NRW Tage der Barockmusik festival. This season she will be adding Ruggiero (Alcina) to her repertoire, under the baton of Attilio Cremonesi.
After graduating from the state conservatories of Frankfurt and Cologne, Ms. Wedekind undertook many guest engagements at some of Germany’s most renowned theatres, including Bonn, Cologne, Giessen, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Mannheim, Magdeburg, Remscheid, Solingen and Weimar. These engagements provided the basis of her repertoire - the Mozart roles: Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Annio (La Clemenza di Tito), Marcellina (The Marriage of Figaro), the Monteverdi roles: Nerone, Amore and Valetto (L’incoronazione di Poppea) and many others. She has worked with conductors such as Christian Arming, Paolo Carignani, Michael Jurowsky, Friedemann Layer, Shao-Chiao Lü, Donald Runnicles, Michael Schneider, Anu Tali and Sebastian Weigle.
Her oratorio and concert repertoires include works by Bach, Fauré, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert and Vivaldi. She appeared as a soloist under Helmut Rilling in Bach’s Mass in B Minor at the Liederhalle Stuttgart, the Thomaskirche Leipzig as well as in the Berlin Philharmonie and the Essen Philharmonie. Numerous recitals, including the Music Festival Mecklenburg- Vorpommern on the isle of Rügen, at the Liederhalle Stuttgart, the Frankfurt Opera, the Chamber-Philharmonic Sopot (Poland) testify to Lisa Wedekind’s extensive repertoire. She performed Peer Gynt and Olav Tryggvason with the Tonhalleorchester in Zurich. A chamber music tour of South Africa has established her as an international artist.
She has won several important competitions including First Prize and Special Lied Prize at the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin. She was awarded First Prize at the International GEDOK-Song Competition, Wuppertal, and was declared First Prize Winner at the Hochschulwettbewerb Deutschland with her interpretation of Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire.
