Bio

Seattle born artist Lauren Van Kempen, graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Opera and Cello performance in 2009. In France since 2010, Lauren is multi-faceted artist, performing opera, musical theatre and chamber music. Finalist in the ARMEL Opera Competition (2016), first place winner of Bellingham Music Club, AIMS alumna and Metropolitan Opera Council auditions contender, Lauren has also been selected to sing for great artists such as Michele Crider, Margo Garret, and Michel Jonasz. Most recently seen in Kiss Me Kate (Lois Cover) at Theatre du Chatlet or The King and I with Lambert Wilson and Susan Graham (Theatre du Chatelet). Lauren has appeared in The Ballad of Baby Doe Music Man, Fools, Peter Pan, The Magical Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, Honk, and Evita, Lauren has been a featured artist for France Musique&rsquos 42 Rue as well as  Broadway au Carre, and American Musical Theatre Live!  In 2015 she created the concert series Broadway Melody Paris (Artistic Director/Featured Artist) as well as her one-woman show: Lauren Van Kempen : The Cabaret. A dedicated chamber musician she was the founding cellist for the Brooks Piano Trio, Quatuor Magnolia and currently the dynamic Trio Ayako. Lauren is also a passionate contemporary musician and follows varied projects with artists such as Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, REM, Big Star) and Baden-Baden. She is regularly invited to play at the American Church in Paris and has been an invited artist for “Concerts dans nos villages”, Festival ARAM, Chappelle Saint-Fortunat…Lauren has studied with Guy Danel (Quatuor Danel), Gunter Pilcher and Valentin Erben (Alban-Berg Quartet), Louis Fima (Quatuor Arpeggione), Proquartet CEMC, Ephraim Laor and with Vaclav Remes (Prazak Quartet).
