Bio



Lee was born on the 9th of May 1983 and grew up in Seoul, Rep. of Korea, where he enrolled at Chugye University for the Arts in Seoul, majoring in voice und earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 2002, he started his study under the tutelage of Professor Chang-Youn Cho at the Department of Vocals of the College of Music at Chugye Universisty of the Arts, but soon he had to leave the college to do compulsory military service for three years from 2003 to 2005. During his military service he sang in the military band. In 2006 he enrolled at Chugye University again and studied under the tenor Young-Whan Kim and vocal coach Ki-woo Kang. In 2009, as consequence of performing a graduation recital, he completed in the BA-Program. In 2009, he was one of the winners in the two national finals of Daegu Voice Competition and Hwacheon Bimog Korean Songs Competition.
In 2010, Lee then continued his studies at the State Conservatory of Music ‘Girolamo Frescobaldi’ of Ferrara in Italy, where he met his mentor Garbis Boyagian, one of the leading baritones of the 20th century in the world. Focusing on the works of Giuseppe Verdi, he received instruction (fulltime individual teaching) in vocal technique and operatic interpretation from his mentor from 2010 to 2011. After the sudden death of Gabris Boyagian in 2011, he was taught by Paolo Coni from 2011 to 2012. He earned his diploma in Discipline Musicali Canto (Musical Disciplines of Singing) in 2012.
During his studies in Italy from 2011 to 2012, he won many national and international voice and opera competitions, for example, Note Verdiane (1st prize) in Mantova and Francesco Mari Martinia (special prize for young artists) in Sabbiadoro, Italy in 2011, Cau Davide Vinolo (1st prize) in Savona, Beniamino Gigli (finalist) in Rom and Piero Cappuccilli (special prize) in Alessadri and ARD (3rd prize) in Munich in 2012. Lee was also invited for many concerts during his studies. Some of the concerts are: Cumunale Cassero in Bologna and Olimpic in Vicenza, Italy in 2011 and Messa de Sainte Cecile in Aix en Provencgalae, France and Jecklin Forum in Zurich, Switzerland in 2012. 
Lee is one of the young talented baritones having a bright future. He was also one of the finalists and winners of international voice competitions in 2013 to 2014: Ronata Tebaldi (2rd prize and special prize for young artists) in San Marino, Italy, Grandi Voci (2rd prize) in Salzburg, Austria, Montserrat Caballe (finalist) in Zaragoza, Spain, Le Grand Prix de l’Opera (Russia Prize) in Bucuresti, Rumania, Grand Prix Maria Callas (2nd Prize) in Athens, Greece, and International Bilbao Competition (3rd Prize) in Bilbao, Spain.
