Krzysztof Szumanski is a former member of the prestigious Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at The Royal Opera House. Previously, he studied at The National Opera Studio in London and the Frédéric Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. He attended masterclasses with Ileana Cotrubas, Catherine Malfitano, Alison Pearce, Alan Opie, Bernd Weikl, Rusko Ruskov and Gerald Finley. 
As a young music academy graduate he was selected for the role of Abner in Händel´s Athalia with Ambronay European Baroque Academy under artistic direction of Paul McCreesh.

As Young Artist he appeared at The Royal Opera House as Zuniga in Carmen, Narumov in Queen of Spades, Sciarrone in Tosca, Starveling in Midsummer Night’s Dream and Pietro in Simon Boccanegra. He was also covering the roles of Nick Shadow in Rake’s Progress, Masetto in Don Giovanni, Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore and Ferrando in Il trovatore. During this time he worked with such conductors as Antonio Pappano, Semyon Bychkov, Ivor Bolton, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Bernard Haitink and Mikko Franck.

Between 2008 and 2013, Krzysztof Szumanski was member of the ensemble at the Deutsche Oper Berlin where he appeared as: Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Alidoro in La Cenerentola and Paolo Orsini in Rienzi. Additionally, he sung Angelotti in Tosca, Masetto in the production of Roland Schwab’s Don Giovanni and also as Panthee in Les Troyens and as Zuniga in Carmen.

After joining the Deutsche Oper Berlin Ensemble, Szumanski debuted at the Wexford Festival in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Snow Maiden conducted by Dimitri Jurowski. He was invited back in 2011 to perform the role of Count Palatine in R. Statkowski’s opera Maria.

In season 2010/11, Krzysztof Szumanski performed a baritone version of Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kijé Suite at the Berlin Philharmonie and in March 2012 he sang at the Berlin Philharmonie Opera Gala. In the same season Krzysztof debuted at National Opera in Warsaw as Leporello in Don Giovanni and as Figaro and Leporello at Krakow Opera House.

This 2016/17 season’s plans include projects at the Staatsoper Darmstadt as Bluebeard in the new premiere Bartok’s Blueabeard Castle in September 2016 as Scarpia Premiere in December 2016 and Escamillo in Carmen.
Also as Escamillo at the Poznan Opera House and Nick Shadow in Rakes Progress at the Beethoven Festival in Warsaw 04.04.2017 in the Warsaw Philharmony. Season 2017/18 include debut in the title role in Der Fliegende Holländer by Richard Wagner in Staatstheater Darmstadt.
