Bio

Born in Sweden, Kristofer Wahlander started studying music at the age of 5. Dedicating his life to the art of music, he graduated with honours from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and completed a postgraduate apprenticeship in conducting at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire in St. Petersburg. He has trained with Maestros Leonid Korchmar (Russia), Everett Lee (USA), Edward Warren (England) and Frans Rasmussen (Denmark). Already during his studies in St. Petersburg he founded the St. Petersburg Festival Orchestra, consisting of the most talented young professional musicians of Russia' cultural capital. Performing with his own orchestra, Kristofer gained immense experience and knowledge and became a popular figure in St. Petersburg's cultural life, prompting invitations from other leading orchestras. He is now regularly working with some of the top orchestras of Europe and has conducted orchestras such as the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, The Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Camerata, the Kaliningrad Symphony Orchestra and many others. He also conducts his own orchestra, the Lundaland Philharmonic Orchestra, in the south of Sweden. His work has also seen him perform together with such world-class artists as pianist Peter Jablonski, trumpeter Hakan Hardenberger, guitarist Craig Ogden and he has worked extensively with the Academy of young singers at the Mariinsky theatre (Kirov Opera and Ballet). Together with the St. Petersburg Festival Orchestra, Kristofer has recorded Tchaikovsky's 5th symphony on the La Forza label. He features frequently on radio and television in Russia as well as in Scandinavia and was even a guest in a popular talk show in Russia. He was also the subject for the documentary 'Music – a matter of life and death' by the film maker Viveca Ringmar, broadcast on Swedish national television. In 2010, he co-founded the Lundaland Philharmonic Orchestra of which he is the director and principal conductor. The orchestra works at the highest level and invites soloist from the Metropolitan Opera house, Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Mariinsky theatre.
