Bio

After studying at the Conservatory in St. Petersburg, Russia, Khatouna  Gadelia was admitted to the Conservatoire de Paris in 2001 where she received her Diploma wih Highest Honours. She began her career at Besançon in the operas Le Balcon by   Peter Eötvös and Benjamin Britten's The Little Chimney Sweep. Her concert de but was at the Paris Cité de la Musique singing Passion selon Saint Jean under the direction of Kurt Masur.

In the early years of her career Khatouna Gadelia, thanks to the peculiarities of her voice, she had the opportunity to interpret roles with different characteristics. Over the years, following a constant process of maturation and studies parallel to her career with master Rolando Nicolosi, soprano Sylvie Valayre, they lead Khatouna Gadelia to evolve into a lyrical repertoire.

In 2018 sang Tatiana in Eugenie Onegin of Tchaikovsky in Bahrain and sings Ein Deutsches Requiem of Brahms in the Domaine d'O in Montpellier and in July 2018 will sing the Contessa in Mozart's Nozze di Figaro at the Soustons Festival.

In 2017 she sang Mozart's Requiem at L'Opera de Saint Etienne and at the festival Enescu in Bucharest she sings Messe en C by Mozart. She performed the role of Madama Butterfly (Cio Cio San) in Puccini's Madama Butterfly at the Komi Opera Theater.

In 2016 season, in January 2016 she sang Carmina Burana in Philarmony of Paris.
In the April of 2016 she played in Wagner’s Parsifal at the Opera theatre of Madrid under direction of Semyon Bychkov.
In the June of 2016 she played the role of Soprano Solo in Royal Palace of Kurt Weill in Opera Theatre of Montpellier under direction of Rani Calderon.

In 2015, she made her debut at Teatro Real in Madrid with Les Noces de Figaro Barbarina and sang Yniold (Pelléas et Mélisande) in Japan with the NHK Orchestra under the direction of Charles Dutoit and the title role l’Enfant in l’Enfant et les Sortilèges in Geneva. Then in Montpellier, she sings l’Enfant in l’Enfant et les Sortilèges and Dove in Unexpected Swallow of Simon Laks.


In 2014 season, she was engaged by the Capitole in Toulouse where she sang the roles of Love and Venus in The Coronation of Poppea, as well as the roles of Despina (Cosi Fan Tutte) and Sofia (Il Signor Bruschino) at the Besançon Opera. She played Pamina (La Flûte Enchantée) in the French Opera en Plein Air and sang Barberine (Nozze di Figaro) at the Opéra National in Nancy, the Grand Théâtre in Caen as well as the Bordeaux National Opera. She was invited back to the Capitole in Toulouse to sing Gianetta in L'Elisir d' Amore and Barberine in Nozze di Figaro. She was the Fiancée in Stravinsky’s Noces at both the National Opéra in Lorraine and the Théâtre du Chatelet in Paris. She was cast as Love in Bordeaux’s The Coronation of Poppea under the direction of Rinaldo Alessandrini before participating in the production of Louise at the Opéra National du Rhin.
Gadelia played her first Mimi in La Bohème at the Saint Etienne Opera. She sang the Second Nymph in Rusalka in Nancy, Xenia in Boris Godunov under the direction of Gennady Rozhdestvensky in Nice, Yniold in Pelléas et Mélisande (concert version) in Paris and London,  Virtu and Valetto in  The Coronation of Poppea in Lille, Dijon and Amsterdam under the direction of Emmanuelle Haim, followed by Zerline in Don Giovanni at the Bordeaux National Opera.

She made her debut at the Glyndebourne Festival in the summer of 2012 with the role of the Enfant in the L’Enfant et les sortileges, under the direction of Kazushi Ono, which was also released as a DVD. Last season, she performed the roles of Lidunka in Smetana’s Les Deux Veuves at the Opera Angers –Nantes, and Yniold at the Opera de Nice.

Besides her opera roles, Khatouna is active in concert. She sang in Mendelssohn's Elias at the Théâtre des Champs- Elysées under the direction of Kurt Masur, in Handel's Messiah in Brest with the Matheus Ensemble, in the Stabat Mater by Pergolesi at the Salle Cortot in Paris, in Mozart's Requiem with the Orchestre de Pau, and a concert version of Faure’s Penelope at the Théâtre des Champs- Elysées (Melantho). 

In 2013\14 season, she played the roles of the Sandman and the Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse. She played again the role of the Enfant in L’Enfant et les sortileges at the Rome Opera with Charles Dutoit and later in Bahrein with Festival Aix en Provence. She also sang Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in Montpellier with Michel Tabachnik. She playes the roles of Mimi in La Boheme and Michaela in Carmen for the Summer Festival Opera des Landes in Soustons with Philippe Forget.
In September she debuted at the Teatro Real de Madrid singing Barbarina in Noces de Figaro, under the direction of Ivor Bolton. In the November she sang Yniold at the NHK Hall in Tokyo with Charles Dutoit.




In




2015\16 season, in October she sang the Enfant




in L’Enfant et les sortileges with l'Orchestra of the Suisse Romande with




Charles Dutoit in Geneva and Losanne and in December she played  the 




role of Colombe in opera L'Hirondelle inattendue of Simon Laks




and l’Enfant in L’Enfant et les sortileges at Opera House of Montpellier.




In the




April of 2016 she played the role of Die




Blumenmädchen in Parsifal




at the Opera theatre of Madrid under direction of Semyon Bychkov.




In the June




of 2016 she played




the role of Soprano Solo in Royal Palace of Kurt Weill. In Opera




Theatre of Montpellier under direction of Rani Calderon.




In the




July of 2016 she attended  the Rinaldo




Nicolosi Master Class in Rome.




Her future




engagement includes the Requiem of Mozart in Opera Saint Etienne.
