www.kathleenmorrison.com   Coloratura soprano Kathleen Morrison is a young Canadian talent who has been touted as having a "Highly professional voice" (Kultur-Extra Berlin). Known for her powerful voice and dramatic abilities she is quickly becoming a sought-after performer on the international operatic stage.    In both Canada and Germany, Kathleen is best known for her portrayals of Mozart’s heroines: Die Königin der Nacht Die Zauberflöte "Powerful, sexy, and vocally dominating" (Pause Magazine), Konstanze Die Entführung aus dem Serail “Especially beguiling” (Berliner1 - Berliner Morgenpost), and Bastienne Bastien und Bastienne “Not only did she have a fantastic voice, with which she stood apart from her colleagues, but she plays her part convincingly with expressive facial expressions and gestures.” (Stadtrand Nachrichten) Her repertoire spans from the light to dramatic coloratura roles.   Since 2012, Kathleen has been working professionally in Germany. She made her debut with the Club- Theater Berlin, performed for 2 seasons in the smash hit "Breakin' Mozart" in the historic Wintergarten Varieté, where she sang both high flying arias of Mozart's Queen of the Night over 70 times, and currently sings with the Kammeroper Kleinmachnow. In November 2014, Kathleen had the privilege of performing the role of Marzelline in Beethoven’s freedom opera, Fidelio where “Through her darker vocal colour and more dramatic attack, Kathleen Morrison's Marzelline stood out as a more lyric, never soubrette, soprano.” (Live-Kritik). These performances were special because they was part of the official celebrations of the 25th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Equally at home on the concert stage, Kathleen is often singled out for her distinct vocal flair and rapport with the audience, "Morrison dealt with wonderful ease the longest vocal part, while also flirting with the audience.” (Neues Deutschland). She has performed as a featured soloist with the Brandenburgisches Konzertorchester Eberswalde, Preussisches Kammerorchester, and the Berliner Oratorium Chor.   Aside from her work on the operatic stage, Kathleen enjoys much success performing opera in unexpected ways. She performs often with Edmonton based Mercury Opera in their stagings of 'Fiamma: An Operascape', which brings opera "to the people in interesting venues". Their most recent triumphant performance was in the Magnetic North Theatre Festival in Ottawa, Canada for a packed audience underneath the Plaza Bridge on the banks of the Rideau Canal. Kathleen has also just finished a run with Cologne based Street/Light Performers Vagalume for the Berlin Festival of Lights. These outdoor performances blended dance, circus artists, creative costumes, and opera.   Kathleen recently performed the Canadian national anthem at the 10th Anniversary of the Canadian Embassy at Leipziger Platz in Berlin. She is a laureate of the 2010 Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques under the Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20, and had the distinction of being the only singer selected from the West coast of Canada that year. She is the recipient of the Vancouver Opera Guild Career Development Grant (2010), the Enid and Clem Memorial Scholarship (2007), and also recently placed second in the 'Wettbewerb für Bel Canto Gesang' in Wernigerode, Germany (2012). Kathleen has also been featured in The Calgary Sun, The Calgary Herald, and on the CBC Eyeopener in her hometown of Calgary, Alberta celebrating her emerging operatic career.   As a graduate of the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, Kathleen also holds an Artist's Diploma in Opera from the Vancouver Academy of Music. In addition to her studies in Canada, Kathleen is an alumna of the Lyric Opera Studio Weimar (Weimar, Germany) where she sang for 2 seasons. Kathleen splits her time between her hometown of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Berlin, Germany
