Juan de Dios Mateos was born in Almería (Spain) in 1989. He started his music studies at the age of 8 in the Conservatory of Almería, where flute was his main instrument. It wasn’t until the age of 17 that he started his singing studies. In 2010 he obtained his diploma on Music Education by the University of Almería. One year later he finishes his flute studies and in 2013 gets his Master diploma by the University of Jaén in Acting and Opera Interpretation.
His singing career starts in 2009 with Le Nozze di Figaro (Basilio and Curzio). Since then he has performed Don Giovanni (Don Ottavio), Bastien und Bastienne (Bastien), West Side Story (Tony), The Phantom of the Opera (Raoul), Luisa Fernanda (Javier) in between many opera and zarzuela recitals in Spain, France, England and Germany.
Mateos has studied with Hedwig Fassbender, Umberto Finazzi, Fausto Nardi, Jaume Aragall, Coral Morales or Lionel Sarrazin among others. Currently he keeps working with Carlos Aransay and Guy Flechter.
In 2015, the Opéra National de Paris invited Mateos to sing with the Opera Studio in Le Vol Retour (Bidule). Following this production, he succesfully passed the auditions to become one of the new members of the Academie de l'Opéra National de Paris.
