Bio

Jo Oparamanuike, a Nigerian Chemical Engineer turned Opera Singer, studied Master of Music Opera (MMus Opera) at the Alexander Gibson Opera School (AGOS), Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), under the tutelage of Scott Johnson. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) in Singing. All his music education in Scotland was supported by RCS Trust Fund&rsquos Scholarship. He holds Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) in Singing and Diploma of Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (DipABRSM) in Vocal Teaching. In 2008 and 2009 respectively, he made the best result in West Africa when he sat for both Grade 8 and ABRSM Diploma in Singing. He was the first Nigerian to sit for ABRSM Diploma in Vocal Teaching and Licentiate in Singing in West Africa. He also holds Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria. Jo recently directed and conducted Patience by Arthur Sullivan for 2016 graduation ceremony of MUSON Diploma School of Music. He had a very wonderful production of L’Elisir D’Amore for MUSON. He will be singing Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale as a performance launch of Comic Opera House in September, 2016 and Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberfloter in December, 2016 for Opera Abuja 2016. He made two performance tours from Europe to Asia and to North America in 2015 with Chorakademie Lubeck. Currently, he is the Opera Director for the MTNF/MUSON Diploma School of music. He sang the concert version of Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia Di Lammermoor with the Scottish Opera Orchestra in February, 2014. He has sung the following roles in Europe and Africa; Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, Prunier in Puccini's La Rondine, Tito and Monostatos in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito and Die Zauberfloter respectively and Iro in Monteverdi’s Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria.  He has sung many opera scenes, which are Tonio in Donizetti’s La Fille du Régiment, Don Ramiro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Alfred in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Hoffman in Offenbach’s Les Contes D’Hoffmann, and Pong in Puccini’s Turandot. He also sang as Monk in Prokofiev’s Betrothal in a Monastery in the RCS and National Scottish Opera company production.   Jo performed at three events of the 2014 Commonwealth Week as part of the 2014 Commonwealth Game in the presence of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. He was invited once again to sing at the 2014 Commonwealth Broadcasting Association Conference.  Since 2012 he sang several concert in Germany, France, Italy, Austria, England, Scotland, China and Brazil with Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Choir and Chorakademie Lubeck. Jo has won several competitions, awards and has many media publications both home and abroad. In addition to his Voice Coaching Job at MUSON School of Music in Nigeria, he was the Musical Director of St. Agnes Catholic Choir, Maryland and the Music Director of the Lagos Catholic Archdiocesan.
