Josef Kurfiřt 

was born in Liberec (Czech Republic) in the musician family. He studied the French horn with his father and singing with his mother. Kurfiřt studied at the Prague Conservatory conducting with Mrs. Němcová, Mr. Košler and Mr. Farkač and singing with the baroque music specialist Mr. Kotouč. He also took courses of conducting and singing headed by José Cura.

As a choirmaster he collaborated with the Charles University Choir for The Lord of the Rings in Concert tour in last two years. He also collaborated with the Czech National Choir and the
Kühn Choir of Prague. In 2016 he prepared the choir for the Anniversary Gala of the world famous tenor Roberto Alagna in the Roman Theatre of Orange (France).

Josef Kurfiřt conducted the Hradec Králové Philharmonic, the Talich Chamber Orchestra or the Moravian-Silesian Sinfonietta of Ostrava where he appears periodically every season and performed masterpieces as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and 9 etc. He also collaborates with many contemporary czech composers and premiers their works.

As the opera conductor he appeared in the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen where he made a musical preparation of abbreviated versions of W. A. Mozart’s The Magical Flute and A. Dvořák’s Rusalka. In the czech premiere of L. Cherubini’s Medea he was an assistant conductor.

In November and December 2017 he worked in the Theatre of F. X. Šalda in Liberec as an assistant conductor of the famous czech conductor Robert Jindra for B. Smetana’s The Two Widows. In this period he was also the choirmaster of the Theatre of F. X. Šalda in Liberec.

In 2018 he is conducting new productions of Zdeněk Fibich’s tragic opera The Bride of Messina in J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen and in Theatre of F. X. Šalda in Liberec Eine nacht in Venedig by Johann Strauss II and an abbreviated version of B. Smetana's The Bartered Bride.
