Bio

Josée Vaillancourt is a Manitoban born and raised in Quebec where she grew up receiving classical piano training. However, she found she enjoyed singing more and eventually her natural skills led her to anything from medieval, Shakespeare's, and Bach's times; be it church chants, Dowland lute songs, or oratorios' arias. Contemporary art songs fit her voice well too, as they share an intimate and poetic quality. A piano teacher as well as a trained high school band teacher, Josée plays a variety of instruments. She also loves performing, which explains why she founded Damsel and Swains which performed 9 shows in the 2013 Winnipeg Fringe Festival with the original play Kemp's Jig. Since then, Damsel & Swains has performed the show twice for private functions. They are planning to film the play and to sell it to television networks in Canada. The Home Route Classical Concert Series are considering putting Kemp's Jig on the road to tour into 12 different Canadian cities for their 2014-2015 season. As a soloist, Josée and her guitarist, Ryszard Tyborowski, have created in a solo recital in November 2013, a suite of 3 art songs composed for them by Canadian composer, Guy Michaud. Josée and Ryszard are working on the recording of a full length cd. Josée is a member of Canzona, a professional chamber baroque music vocal ensemble. She is an in demand chorister whenever the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra produces works requiring a choir.
